What are some high end compact digital cameras that take AA batteries?

It looks like the Canon A-series would work. The A500-series are smaller than the A-600-series. (A550, A560)

Also, the Sony S-series uses "AA" batteries (S650, S700) and they are fairly small.

Also, the Fujifilm A610, A800; Kodak C653, C433, C875; Nikon L10, L11, L12; Olympus FE-170, FE-180, FE-210; Panasonic LS60, LS75...

I have a Canon Powershot S3IS that takes 4 double A batteries. One set of batteries will last me a whole night of doing astrophotography. I usually take around 100 pictures a night, and it takes great video too. If you have any questions about it let me know.

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;

2. Has a 3x optical zoom;

3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;

4. It's very small and light;

5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;

6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;

7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;

8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

You should buy a camera that comes with it's own recharchable battery. My old camera wasted tons and tons of AAs you dont want to spend that much on batteries when you are already spending money on electricity so you might as well take advantage.

in the event that they're rechargable batteries, Wal-Mart/objective/Walgreens. All of those places have rechargable battery chargers on the industry, albeit with rechargable batteries to circulate with them.
