Do you hold the door open for the person behind you when walking into a building?
It is just the polite thing to do. If your a woman holding the door for a man rather than saying thank you they usually take it from you and let you walk on through...Common courtesty at least in my small USA town how about yours?....

Yes, I hold the door and often times a gentleman will take it and let me walk through. But, there are some people that believe that I'm the Offical Door Holder and file in like cattle. Rude people. My pet peeve is when someone sees a lady with a baby or an older person and they simply let go. That irks me. It's about 50/50 where I live of polite/rude.

yes and i think it is so rude when i am about to walk into a place behind someone and they just drop the door. I don't expect anyone to step aside and let me go first, but they could at least just hold it for a second til i grab it instead of letting it close in my face.... I have noticed that it is a certain type of people that do this....if the person i am holding the door for is elderly or carrying stuff or has a child/children with them, i hold the door and step aside for them. This is common courtesy, really not an inconvenience to anyone, and i wish more people did it. It is really appreciated when it happens.

I think it's common courtesy and really shouldn't have anything to do with gender. I always hold the door open and I'd say about half the time the men walk through and half the time they take it from me. It doesn't really matter to me one way or another, either way we're being polite and that's much better than letting the door slam in the face of the person behind you!

If I happen to be paying attention and notice there are others behind me, I absolutely hold the door for them. If I hear them coming right after me, I feel a little bit guilty because I wasn't paying attention.
Yes, some men try to take the door from me for me to go first, but usually I insist they go first. I'm holding the door as a courtesy to them, not because I expect them to hold the door for me. Sometimes it seems like certain men feel emasculated if a woman holds the door for them, but that's not the intent. Holding a door for someone else is a common courtesy that everyone should practice, not just men.

Here where I live everyone holds open doors for people even strangers and if its a woman holding open a door for a man he usually just grabs the door and lets her go in as a courtesy thing. and the women always say thank you.

Most of the time I will. If I don't see them until its too late, then I can't help it. Some times, I will stand and wait for someone, just to see if they will run to the door, just for the fun.
If its a woman, I always hold the door. For a guy, I might wait, but I will go in first, then let him follow.

here in wales,UK it's same,
but men are more grate-full if you are holding the door open for them.
they say thank-you yes you heard right.
I always hold the door open for other people behind me,and let others go before me when opening a door.
but go to England and they don't bother(well about 85%I have found)to hold the door open they usually let it slam in your face, and they never say thank-you,just push past when you hold the door open.
It doesn't harm/hurt to be polite, and help others does it now?
and I'm only stating my opinion on the places that I've been to where their manners are the best, and worst.

I always hold the door even though I'm a woman. I've seen parents yell at their sons when they didn't hold the door for a female! I love to see things like that though. It means they're making an effort.

Yes, I always hold the door for the person behind me when entering a building.

Well, it kinda depends for me. If I'm really hot and tired, and i just wanna get in the building, I just push the door open not really caring if anyone is behind me. But If I'm not reallly tired and I feel like being polite, I do open the door for the person behind me.
