Can You put a trout in a fish tank?

I know that this sounds like a stupid question,l but can you put a freshwater trout in a fish tank? I am thinking of getting a 75 gallon tank and would like to have some trout in the tank. They require cold water but has anyone heard of anyone doing this?

Yes you can put them in your aquarium. We have them at the Sporting goods shop. they are in with bass, bluegill, crappie and perch.

They have been in there for a good while and are quite large. Just be sure to feed them a healthy diet including minnows, worms and a good pellet food.

Depends on the tank's set up. Trout need cold water that stays below about 64 degrees. Most trout also need a strong current. If you wanted to purchase a chiller and strong pumps you could keep trout though you'll eventually need a bigger tank. Check out the North American Native Fish Association NANFA and they should have some information about trout. They used to have a great article on brook trout, which are beautiful.

You can but I would get a tank bigger then 75 gallons. And if you put one in there only put one or two per every 100 gallons, as some of them can get rather big. You'll want to keep it cool, and don't put other fish in unless they are cold water fish too. You'll also want to fix the tank up with a dirt or sand bottom and some live plants along with the filter to make it more like what they would be used to.

If they weren't a cold water fish that would have been a good idea for my eel tank, never thought about them.

When the trout is young you could get away with that, but you'll soon need a much larger tank. You'll probably need a chiller too, since they are cold water fish.

No. that's merciless to take fish out of their community habitat. those fish can strengthen on the instant and can get 20-30LB, 13" in length and be an extremely thick, long fish. till to procure Brown Trout for the particular use of aquaponic's which might require a great pond or pool. i might launch it returned to that's community habitat.

I would not think 75 gallons would be big enough for a fish used to swimming in a lake.

Although fish adapt to the size of the enclosure it isn't right for a large fish to live in a small tank. It takes about 10 years for a fish to adapt to its environment completley so it wouldn't be a good idea as it will get to the point where it cannot move very much.
