If you only have mild acne you will not be able to get a prescription for Accutane. There are many risks associated with it that they only give it to people with severe acne.

i'm on accutane currently. yeah, there are side effects, but i think the long term effects will be WELL WORTH the short-term ones. take to heart the following, however: i have been on every acne medication under the sun and nothing NOTHING nothing has worked.
because you don't have severe or nodular or cystic acne, i doubt your derm will put you on it. anyway, accutane defnitely makes it worse before it gets better. if your acne isn't that bad, you probably shouldn't aggitate it. if, in the unlikely event that you do get a Rx for accutane, make sure you are able to handle the side effects.

I'm currently taking it myself, and I can't explain to you what it has done for me, I started seeing the results after about a week or so. Don't listen to all the bad publicity it has had, it never made me depressed, it actually made me more happy because my face looked great. I mean it does have minor stuff that come with like reallll dry skin, back ache, dry patchy skin on your hands but its well worth it. I had read that it gets worse before it gets better but thankfully mine only got better. You do have to be careful with ur diet cuz the Accutane can make your cholesterol rise, so you have to be care ful with what you eat because if it gets too high then they will take you off of it. I definately recommend it..you should take it! you will loveeee the results! goodluck!

Don't do Accutane! You should read the side effects. A common one is that you fall into a depression and because of this, previous Accutane users have committed suicide. The dermatologist will always recommend Accutane since it is very strong but there are always other options that are also strong. I have used ProActiv and it works wonders. It really does!

I would suggest you look for other alternatives to Accutane. I know people that have been on it and the side effects are scary. It does work, but in the long run its not worth the risks. I'm sure your doctor can come up with something. Have you tried Proactive?

While it took little less than two months for me to really see a difference, my acne, blackheads and whole lot of other skin problems I had such as eczema had completely cleared! It was totally amazing...

There are other oral meds available that don't have such high risks. You should ask the doctor for a prescription for minocycline. That is an antibiotic and it works really well. Accutane has too many negative side effects and should be taken only as a last resort, especially if you are sexually active.
