When looking to buy a house, do you find floor plans useful?

I am conducting some market research. I would like to know if a floor plan layout would help sell a house. If you have looked through estate agent websites before, did you see any with floor plan layouts, were they useful? A simple 'Yes' or 'No' will do, but would be great if you could give a little more feedback! Thanks!

VERY....When you buy a house..make sure the floor is flat and level. I've known people that bought houses only to find later that they had ground sinkage then they had to sell out again.

They are useful in the sense that they give you an idea of the functionality of a home. I personally never paid much attention to the floor plan. I paid attention to the market value of the home in comparison to the asking price. I also looked at comparables, 10 year zoning plan in the geographical area of the home. As far as floor plan goes, I like to get inside the house to really get the feel of the layout. On the other hand, if you're looking to buy a home out of town, I would think the floor plan would certainly be helpful if you're not able to easily access the home initially.

    Yes.

    it should be compulsery.

We moved 3 years ago to the other end of the UK and i got sick of looking at houses that had odd layouts that were hidden by the text of the leaflet. Its not a game, why should i have to decypher the agents rubbish. Do they think i wont spot a dodgy layout when i'm there or something ?

Even asking agents yeilded no truth.

"if i'm going to the other end of the country to see this house is there anything odd about its layout", "no sir, if i could afford it , i'd buy it myself".

you turn up, and find 3 of the bedrooms are interlinked with no corridor. bathrooms off the kitchen etc....

    nightmares.

As you can , 3 years on and i still cringe at the junk we were sent to see.

YES! the layout of the rooms is very essential - especially to myself with a few buy to let properties but also important is to put the dimes ions of the rooms on - it saves viewers wasting the estate agents time in potentially unnecessary viewings

Yes definatly it is useful. Gives you a much better idea of the layout of the house and actually a definate idea of wether the house is suitable or not.

Yes. Sometimes the floor plan has indicated traffic flow problems that somehow were not otherwise evident. Further, it can be a reminder of the house that I otherwise would not have.

    Good luck on your research.

A floor plan with proper measurements is useful. The real test is to visit the house.

No, not really. I love virtual tours, photos are the next best thing.

But I tend to be more artistic than mechanical in these things. Hubby is more mechanical and likes floor plans.

You betcha it helps! However, I would not actually buy the house until I saw a model or something the builder has done before.
