What's the best way to clean a dogs ears?
I was told not to use a Q-tip...what can i use to really get in there that doesn't hurt her cause she's got big ears and they get dirty VERY easily and wet cotton ball doesn't get in deep enough

Continue to use the cotton ball. Talk to your vet about medication to administer to help break down the build up. You might want to try a mix of hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar - diluted w/ water.
Thats what my vet recommended for my Golden who had chronic ear infections due to the bacteria and garbage that was in her ears.
Good Luck

I just spent over $400 at the vet 2 weeks ago for two ear infections. They prescribed a liquid that you squirt in the ear, then kinda hold the ear and massage it then let them shake it out. The vet said that we could use those makeup sponges to clean the outside of the ears, but NEVER to put anything inside as it will just push the crud further into the ear even though it looks like you're cleaning it. If you can't get to the vet right now, look for ear cleaning products that break up the earwax...this will help alot.

The best way is to buy a prepared ear-wash from your pet store or feed store and just sqirt it in. The dog will shake their head (do it outside!) to get the liquid out and it will bring all of the junk out with it. You can wipe off the worst with a tissue but don't go too far down as it will work its way out by the shaking. If the ears are very red or really stink she could have ear mites but you can also purchase a treatment for that. If they don't clear up though have her checked by a vet as she could have an ear infection.

Hi , I'm a vet tech, The best thing is get a ear cleaner from your VET, Then Simply Use a cotton ball ,soak it in the ear solution and gently wipe in and out as many times as you need to clean. And then repeat on the other ear.

actually what everyone is saying is correct took my dog this weekend to the vet for the same thing...use the pre-prepard solution and my vet just used tissue and his finger. he said dont worry about going too deep cause the anatomy of the dogs ear wont allow you to touch the eardrum.
