Thumbs down?

What's up with those of you who feel you must give a thumbs down to a good answer?

Is it that you have answered the same question and feel that if you give a thumbs down no one will vote for that question, or perhaps the asker will be swayed in your direction?

If you go through life denouncing everyone else's opinions where will that get you?

This is a serious question, so please, no obnoxious replys.

Update:

For those of you who did not comprehend what I refer to as a good answer, my definition for this purpose is, an answer that has been researched and is known to be a fact, not just an opinion, point of view or guess. Most of my answers relate to cooking so when I answer I know I am giving good information. And if it's a recipe, well of course everyone as thier own tastes but, does that mean a recipe should get a thymbs sowm 'cause it did not appeal to someone? I think not. What say you?

I feel the same. There should be no thumb down answers to good questions. Thanks for asking this. It is something that has been eating at me, also.

Everyone has an opinion. When I receive a thumbs down on what I believe to be a good answer I look at it again to see if there is something I can learn from it. There are those who just thumbs down everyone and that is just sad, but then again it is a way of saying "I do not agree with this" I have given thumbs down to what one person may think is an excellent answer and has actually gotten best answer, but it goes against my way of thinking. The world would not be any fun at all if everyone agreed all the time. It is not a personal insult, it is just a disagreement. I take what I need to learn and leave the rest here.

    Peace.

I don't know specifically what you're referring to, but people have different ideas of what a "good" answer could be. I give thumbs down to answers I strongly disagree with, and I don't see a problem with that. Not everyone has the same outlook on life.

I think it goes on how you feel about the answer, it may be the perfect answer for one person but for another it may not. I do believe though that some people go around and click thumbs down because they think it isn't as good as their answer, however it's the person who asks the question who decides which answer helps them the most.

Getting thumbs down is better than getting no thumbs at all. Means someone has read your post and you've caused a reaction. Best I've got is 14 thumbs down, I was stoked !

I give a thumbs up to almost everyone who answers my questions - I'm glad they took the time to read and give me their opinion - if they are rude, I just ignore them - people that give thumbs down are just miserable people.

Well I certainly don't do that and besides the concept is to share thoughts and ideas not to get points and run to the top of the proverbial heap.

People will never change though, and Yahoo answers is no different than any other avenue for human behavior.

Totally agree. It sometimes makes me angry. Maybe that's a sign I should take a break from here?
