I keep seeing the word "emo." What does it mean?

The word "emo" is short for emotional. When you hear of emo music (ie Yellowcard, Three Days Grace, or whatever whiney depressed youth music you have), it normally refers to emotional music. Emotionally unstable to be specific.

That's why all the emo music you hear are by artists who are whining about life and how life is unfair. They're emotionally pained.

It means emotional, however some people use it to call people who have a certain dress sense (skinny jeans, converse, black hair, side fringe etc) and it's also a type of music such as Fall Out Boy and PANIC! At The Disco. Either way it means emotional =]

An entire subculture of people (usually angsty teens) with a fake personality. The concept of emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this:

1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie)

2. Guy finds out, so he listens to lame emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands"

3. Now an emo guy, he meets emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie)

4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him saying, "It's not you, it's me" (lie), as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team

5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues

This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about!

"Emo" means emotional-- and its slang usually means the "emo kids" standing out in front of Hot Topic (just an example). A stereotypical "EMO KID" is kid with black hair, thick black eye-liner, tight girl/straight-legged pants and rumors are spread about them saying that they cut themselves.

There's been a lot of studies actually (strange as it seems) about the population/amount of "EMO KIDS" in the world and it appears that most of those kids live in the United States. Of course, some of the (stereotypical) things that these kids say is, "My life is so unfair. I live such a terrible life!" when actually they live a quite comfortable life, but they're just complaining about something and making their situation worse (e.g., cutting themselves, drugs, etc.).

That word emo is standing for emotional, meaning of us to express the feelings that we do have emotional. We do the poem or songs or any of diary we write. So emo is really stand for emotional
