Technical telephone problem. Can you help?
Telephone crackling on the line. BT tells me I have an internal fault which is slowing down the broadband. They will not repair as it is internal. Is it a DIY job?

Just go through the house, and disconnect everything except your dsl modem. Make sure there is NO filter before the line goes into the modem , as this will block it from working.
Next check DSL speed. If its great, or better start connecting phone by phone. testing speed and listening to phones as you connect them for noise. A couple of things that can cause noise are faulty modems and or anything connected, such as a comptuer modem, satelllite reciever. security system. ect.
if there is a noise when you connect the 1st phone . disconnect that one and try another. on a seperate line in the home. If there is still noise.. Go outside and remove the cover on the telephone network interface. There will be 2 doors. 1 you can remove, and one you should not .. they are marked. there should be a test jack in there where you can connect a filter first . and then a phone . making sure to connect the phone to the phone side and not the DSL side..
If there is no noise at that point. then there is a possible partial short and or a partial ground from either tip or ring on your phone line..

Do you have the filters connected properly?
Crackling line and slow broadband or frequently disconnecting are signs of wrongly connected filters.
Every telephone device on your system should have a filter connected to it.

Disconnect each phone device one by one to see if trouble is resolved. If not, try disconnecting each jack one by one. Once the trouble is identifed, then replace as needed. If you have an iterface box on the side of your house, go there with a phone and see if the trouble persists with a direct connection to their network, if so, it is their trouble.
