It's ok to get something that does not seem for an appropirate occassion. It's a gift.... a gift he will always remember and always use.

Food! I would buy him some grocery's. What kind of food is his favorite? Cookies, Ice cream, real butter, steak....

Hang out with him for a day... unless he will hate that... I might if my son called me lethargic.

Watch a movie with him .Buy a dvd he would watch.
