When will enough be enough in regards to our food coming from China?

...or the fact that we inspect almost none of it?? We talk about securing the U.S., but our food supplies are able to come on in with only 1.5% of it getting inspected (not to mention our open water lines). How much of our food and products from China are we going to allow into our country when these health scares continue to happen? Spinach, beef, pet food, Thomas the Tank Engine and his lead paint, now toothpaste, etc. The government spends tons to pay farmers here subsidies, then they go get it cheaper elsewhere; but even though it's cheaper, when will the bad out weight the good? Lord knows where this food is coming from, what sorts of places it touches, etc. Why don't we make more of our own products/food so that we're able to know where it's coming from and if it's healthy?

Update 2:

Barb - I only buy organic locally grown stuff, but I'm lucky enough to have access to those kinds of grocery stores. While I do believe in personal responsibility, it still doesn't sit well with me that we're in business with them...

It will never happen. This is called Capitalism and that's what Americans want. If we didn't have imported products from countries like China, you would be paying a lot more for them. I agree with you that they should inspect incoming food a lot closer; however, that costs money......

Well, there is a very simple resolution to this whole mess.... Everyone I know is doing it, has always done it, including myself.

I DO NOT purchase any food items not processed in the U.S.... I don't care if the imported stuff is cheaper..sometimes you get what you pay for.

The ONLY exceptions are dried pasta, some produce that comes from South America or Mexico that I prepare and cook myself.

If we Americans would merely stop buying the crapola from China, it would go away. But most are to dammed lazy to make the effort to change their buying habits and are drawn by cheap prices. They never think about how it is processed over there...what kind of factories does this stuff come out of...what kind of sanitary rules do they follow. C'mon, this is CHINA - one of the biggest 3rd world countries.

Just buy American.... That is not a 100% guarantee but it is a heluva lot better than what China provides.

Take responsibility for your own actions.

might have somthn to do with unions driveing up wage cost for jo shmo to turn a wrench and the Chinese with 1billion slave labors. you can hlp buy not buying the cheapest thing and avoiding walmart all together. that'll be the easiest way to stop getting goods from China. do a little research on where to buy american or at least latin american food prducts (as this is where veggies come from in winter). also stop using energy needlessly and fill up at stations that advertise using us oil so we can tell Iran and venezuela to go screw em selves, we dont want there oil. this would alow troops and resources to be diverted to other places. like spending money on hireing food inspectors in stead of new riflemen. but really the whole thing starts with you not whining and realising its the american consumer that dictates who in the world does what and when. not some goofy congressman who hasnt done a real days work in 3 years.

oh, and using the phrase true patriot is lame, sounds like some weak buzz word the way it gets tossed around by goofy ultra liberals and ultra conservatives. the only true patriots i wanna hear about are tom brady, randy moss and teddy bruschi

listen lady, quit your bitching!! big business is what matters, bush and his cronies have your best intrest in mind. do NOT question authority!! they know what is best for us!! we have sent millions of our american jobs over there. this allows big business to make more money off of us because they can have a third world COMMUNIST country to use slave labor to make our goods. you see, its win win for big business. look at walmart, chinas biggest american purchaser. china is a communist country with a terrible human rights track record. why would you have a problem getting our food there?? im kidding, youll find out that you have to point that out to some people on here. you are a true patriot!! keep up the good work!! check this out...

The scumbag retard has been reported!

We need to wake up and stop this China trade! Not only does it support slave labor and a communist regime it destroys American businesses. I see the yellow journalism icon Popular Mechanics is glorifying this communist country, I would expect nothing less from the traitorous scum.

If the gov't hadn't made it so expensive to do business in the US, then we probably wouldn't have to get food from China.
