Do you think Christians should boycott Direct TV and DIsh network? Edited?

I understand that pornography is a choice and PPV on these services (many people don't know they offer hard core XXX channels).

I understand also that we can choose to watch good channels.

What I'm stating is, if all Christians who think pornography is disgusting, immoral, and adulterous were to cancel their whole service, then millions of subscriptions would be lost to Direct TV and Dish Network.

This would create an effect for these companies to re-consider even providing pornography through their service and send this smut back to the dark alley stores & mail order.

Basically "Why support a company that provies complete debachery channels and why not ban them until they change their ways".

Even though sombody has a right to pornography, we also have rights to boycott companies that provide and sell it.

No different than boycotting a video store with a "back room porn section" except this would be more powerful as satellite is "anonymous".

Update:

By the way, the internet is not 1 company. Just FYI

What's the purpose of your boycott? It seems like you're just doing without something because the conveyance that brings the thing you like into your house could (hypothetically) also bring in things you do not wish to consume. That would also cover mail, the internet, newspapers.

Hey, have fun with this boycott thing. I would hope that not everybody would be that...narrowly focused...but hey, who knows maybe you'll succeed and I'll never be able to find porn on TV, the internet or in my mailbox ever again.

You make a great statement and point about this. I agree with you in many ways, However, if we were to do this one, then all other sinful things would and could be boycotted from websites to magazines, which will never end in America and can escalate sinful ways even more. And it comes down to choice. Every person has the "freewill" first to choose God's path, and if they do not, they choose to take these sinful directions in the first place. In our reality of this world, it is up to each of us to make the right choices because these sinful things will always remain in some shape or form. evil lurks everywhere.. Boycotting everything will not solve the problem. Having God in our lives does. Maybe a direction of God and more channels with God offered would be a first step. god knows those who watch porn and do the sinful ways. It is up to us to plant the seed as christians and spread the gospel. I think that we would be more effective in that then boycotting and wasting that time doing that which will escalate more evil. Lets fight for more Godly clean shows to overrule porn. :)

    Thanks for sharing- God Bless

I am a Christian minister, and I don't watch porn on Direct TV, but I will not bite off my nose to spite my face. Any intelligent Christian should understand how a channel selector on a remote works, and only watch what you want to watch. God gave man free will to believe or not. Why not use your free will for yourself and let other men make their own choices, which is a God given right. I encourage other Christians to use channel blockers and encourage others to do likewise. I feel your campaign of terror on anything you deem offensive to be demeaning to Christians who are intelligent caring people, and makes us look ridiculous to the world.

I should have added in my previous answer to this question that cable providers also offer hard-core PPV and stations.

So, what are you gonna do for tv? Buy a big old antenna and hope you can get TBN to come in? I really don't think you would do any good by boycotting the providers. But, hey, whatever floats your boat.

You are a consumer and have the freedom to purchase whatever services you want. I wonder something. Why do the adult channels and adult web sites make so much money when the vast majority of Americans are Christians? Surely the holy people wouldn't be customers for the debauchery. Oh wait, yes they are.

You do have that right, but I'm willing to bet that more subscriptions come from people who DON'T have a problem with the fact that pornography is offered than do, and that your boycott will have little effect. Why not just not watch the channels and mind your own business?

Don't get Direct TV or the Dish Network. Other people might want it but boycotting it is not the answer. If you don't like something then go away.

Those companies are venders of media and are not representatives of the church. I would expect them to offer such choices just as grocery stores offer alcohol and cigarettes. But obviously, no Christian I know of bans the supermarket.

We cant have freedom both ways. Either we're for free speech and free religion, or we are not and want to squelch and control. Either we enjoy the good things freedom brings us and detest and reject the trash it does, or we settle for tyranny and govt control. Which sounds better?

That idea is fine. but consider the opposite as well. What if Non-Chrisitans boycotted those companies because they carried religious programming? What you're advocating is censorship and to allow censorship by ONE group is to infer that censorship is alowed by ALL groups. Like yo already noted, YOU, as the individual viewer have the option of watching or NOT watching a particular program. Why not just leave it at that and stop trying to SHOVE your OWN personal views down other folks throats?

I have DirecTV and do not have porn channels on my list. The company knows a good many do want them and pay extra to get it. Not everyone believes as I do and that is fine.

As long as I am not paying for their porn, I am fine.
