How do I get the "Check Engine Now" light to go out on a 2007 VW Passat?

If you have filled up with fuel within the last 48 hours, you need to insure that the fuel filler cap is on correctly. VW has put on the gas door the warning that the fuel cap on wrong, loose or missing will turn on the check engine light. If the cap is loose or on wrong; secure it correctly, the light will remain on for up to two weeks, setting that aside: you can and should take it to the dealer for a check out on the cause of the light. VW will allow the dealer a one time no charge to the customer for this issue: they probably won't be happy about it, VW warranty only pays .2 or .3 hour @ warranty rate to reset the light including a checkout. If the vehicle has running issues and light is flashing, have the vehicle towed to the closest agency: driving it could be doing a majour damage to the emissions system/motor/transmission! In any case, the vehicle should go to the dealer for a check out. If the fuel cap is loose, remember that you need to hear at least 3 clicks of the cap to consider it tight. Its difficult to tell which of them, unless one can visibly see a part broken.Look for any broken vacuum or air hose and correct it.Also check any loose contacts etc. If all are ok, I will suggest you get a scan tool to tell which fault exist and what kind of repairs required. If not, visit a competent shop for help. Goodluck.

it could be a number of things. but being that this is a brand new car, dont even sweat it and bring it to a Volkswagen dealership.

dont forget, you are NOT obligated to bring your car back where you bought it. you can take it to ANY authorized Volkswagen dealership you want...so if there is a dealership closer and more convenient to where you live or work, then bring it there. when you set your appointment, be sure to ask for a loaner car too...i'm sure you will get one if you ask.

i had a check engine light in my 2003 Jetta within the first 20,000 miles. it never ran poorly or gave me any trouble. took it to the dealership and i havent seen it come on since (except for when i first turn the key! hehe)

Have the code read and a proper repair made. It,s probably still under the emission warranty. P.S. turning the light off would only be temporary if the problem causing the light to come on still exist,s.

OBD II scanners are only good for US pre owned vehicles. Not even new ones. Forget a European, or Japanese car. The best thing is take it to your Volkswagen dealer since it should have a warranty.

Being an 07, it is under warranty. Take it to the dealer, and have them deal with it. Do not follow any "disconnect the battery" bad advice that you are sure to get from those who don't have a clue about it.

Check for Oil Sludge in the engine!

Cover it up with black tape (just kidding). It might be an O2 sensor that is bad, or a moisture build up in your catalytic converter. Or a false alarm on your computer system. Your mechanic can tell you.

First you need to find out why its on, go to auto zone and use an OBD-ll scanner, find the code and repair it, it will go off when the repair is made after the key is turned on and off a few times. Good Luck and GOD Bless
