Can a lovebird be a good companion?

I have always seen lovebirds caged, never hand tame. Are they more difficult to train or do they just not prefer human company? They are just such cute little imps!

Lovies are so sweet and cute and can be GREAT companions. The only problem is that you have to handle the reguarly so that they will stay tame and because they crave interaction. If played with daily and taken out a Lovebird can be as friendly as a cockatoo or a dog. :)

Actually, lovebirds can grow up to very lively companions if they are hand-reared baby chicks. They are as cute as a button as little babies!!

The reason why people keep them in cages is so that they don't fly over the place and crash or reck your things around the house. Lovebirds can be quite mischievious little birds if not watched. BE WARE

It actually depends if you want it already hand tamed it'll costyou a bit more. But I suggest you buy a baby lovebird about 6 weeks old. (make sure the black marks are visible on the beak)

But with time and patience you'll be accustomed to taming and traing like I have over the years.

They're very cute and cuddly birds

Along with all the other answers, please keep this in mind. You need atleast 50-90 dollars for a vet check-up, otherwise, you'll probly end up sick as a dog and, if there are other's in your house, they'll get sick as well. Your pets might even die. They have a serious disease that can spread airborn. We have wilf lovebirds, and since I did not know about this, I had put my birds in there outdoor aviary that the lovebirds could have acess to my birds, even reaching though the cage and touching or biting them. Two of them died from it. Cockatiels for the same thing. Budgies and parrots are not much of a problem. I would rather not want anyone to loose a bird like I did. However, I am still searching to get 2 peachfaced ones myself! They are great companions if cept singally, but if you keep 2+ you won't have to spend as much time with them. I'm looking to keep two birds, for them to be a new addition to the flock, and I do hopefully want them to have chicks. I also want them around for there noise. I have my budgies, teils, and doves and they make the house feel like a jungle, it is very nice, and I have heard the lovebirds and have fallen in love with there calls!

I breed lovebirds and have babies in the nest right now. When they have enough feathers to thermoregulate - about weeks, I will remove them from the nest and hand raise them.

They will be the sweetest babies and will love to be held and cuddled by humans. I do not recommend trying to tame a parent raised lovebird - waste of time. Buy a hand raised bird and you and the bird will be much happier. Find a breeder in your state - ask your feed store - they may know one in your area.

Lovebirds can be great pets. I know plenty of people with sweet hand tamed lovebirds. If you wanted one I'd try to find a handfed one. (A bird that has been handfed by humans) other then one that is raised totally by it's parents. But even a parent raised lovebird can be tamed. :D

they are good companions for their other mate - lovebird. if you want to train a bird, I recommend young parrots or conures. at a young age they are very open to human company. sometimes older birds (trained by others or neglected) are more difficult to train.

If you keep them solo they can get quite tame.

This requires alot of patience and dedication however, something that most people lack in today's ADHD world.
