  • What would you recommend for a first time traveller to Australia?

My husband and I are wanting to make a trip to Australia sometime in the next couple of years. I don't know where to start or where to go. We think a guided tour might be best for us as we have no international driving experience. We want to see Sydney, some beaches, some historical areas, but do not have unlimited funds. Any suggestions welcome. We know the seasons are opposite of ours and don't really have any desire to spend time in the bush in the heat, we have enough of that at home. Thanks for your time and input.

  • Weight Loss Surgery, Diabetes and CDL?

I hope someone has a little insight into this situation. I am Type 2 diabetic, have been for about 17 years. I have spoken to numerous individuals that have had weight loss surgery and have reduced or eliminated their need for diabetes medications. If my diabetes progresses to the point where I need insulin, I will be unemployed with my current employer and I am afraid that time is getting close. I will then have the option of a lengthy process to be allowed to drive with insulin or find employment that pays about a quarter of what I earn now. I also have medical insurance, but with an exclusion for weight loss surgery. Am I wrong in thinking that weight loss surgery would be a reasonable accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act in order to keep me working? I am a CDL holder working for a company that carries hazardous materials. Opinions appreciated!!

  • What Trucking Companies Are Still Getting Their Company Drivers Miles?

My husband has nearly 20 years experience and a good driving record. He has hauled flat bed, reefer, dry van and has haz-mat endorsement. He hates getting less miles than he can legally run and he's making 47 cents per mile right now, but is tired of begging for miles and having too much down time and seeing the best loads going to teams. Any help would be appreciated!!! Please no one recommending J.B Hunt, Schneider, Swift, etc. We have tried these companies in the past and already know they suck!!! We are located in SW Oklahoma, south of Interstate 40 and West of Interstate 44.

  • Purchased Used Car From Dealer-Missing Title?

My husband and I were looking for a decent economical 4 cylinder pickup to run around in and we found one from our local used car dealer. We used a privately obtained loan as this was a cash dealer, he does not do financing. It has been 5 weeks, he has had to reissue a sales contract so we could get our second set of temp tags. If we are unable to get a title by the middle of next month, are we justified in asking for a refund of our purchase price as well as any interest we have paid? Is this a common occurence? This dealer has been in business for over 40 years and this is a small town. He bought the truck from a dealers auction in another town and state. Thanks for any assistance!

  • What chance of temp civil service job becoming permanent?

I applied for a job with civil service that was listed as a temp position possibly for a term up to two years. During my interview (my first with civil service) I was told the temp position could possibly become permanent. I declined the position as it did not include any insurance or retirement benefits, but am now wondering if I did the wrong thing. Any civil service employees reading this, is it common for temp positions to become permenent or do they just say that to lure qualified applicants to fill slots? This was a position that was originally performed by military personel but is being transferred to civilian employees at least for the time being.

  • Elderly Maltese With Heart Murmur?

I have a 14 1/2 year old female maltese, spayed at 6 months, all her vet work is up to date, she has been a loved companion all of her life. She has always had a bad heart murmur, she's been on medication to help with that for the last year, recently had some bad teeth removed and I realize she is nearing the end of a long life. Considering she has always had the heart problem I am surprised she has lived this long. I have made up my mind that as long as she has some interest in food and does not appear to be in pain, I will keep her with me, but when she quits eating and appears ready to give up I will have her put to sleep, but I am asking anyone with veterinary experience, is there anything else I should do for her? She sleeps more, her breathing is sometimes labored, she hates visits to the groomer and obviously the vet. She is not overweight and never has been and can be finicky about eating until I break out the "people food". Any INFORMED suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Does anyone else feel like cheering about illegal crackdown in Florida?

I just read about the Sheriff in Florida that has some unusual techniques for catching illegals on construction sites. I have no problem sharing citizenship with people of any nationality, but I truly resent illegals coming here, taking jobs from Americans, and allowing business owners to pocket outrageous profits because they do not pay full wages, insurance, social security, or workers comp on illegals. I am outraged by organizations like the ACLU and organizations working to help illegals here in the USA to try and get around laws already on the books with the justification of "they are doing jobs Americans won't do". Round these illegals up, fingerprint or chip them, and send them back the first time with a warning that if they come back, they will be put in a work camp like Joe Arpaio has for criminals in Phoenix. Let them go through the ligitmate process of immigration and keep Americans working. We might pay a little more for fruit and vegetables but mostly it cuts profits!

  • Can a lovebird be a good companion?

I have always seen lovebirds caged, never hand tame. Are they more difficult to train or do they just not prefer human company? They are just such cute little imps!

  • Can he recover fully?

My husband had a compression fracture of his L-2 vertebrae, no damage to the disk above or below, 25% compression of the vertebrae. He was in the hospital for a week, no surgery, at home now, bed rest and pain meds for the time being. Does he have a chance of making a full recovery? Any one who has gone through this please let me know a little about your experience. He was an active and hardworking man, will he be able to get back to that? I either need a little hope to hang on to or to face the truth and get on with things as they will be from now on.

  • Has anyone EVER had good luck with an auction horse?

I just brought my husband home from a week in the hospital after being thrown from our "Auction Horse" and I am just curious-Has anyone ever brought home a real "Bargain" from an auction? The horse is sound, rode well when it suited him, and I could sit him bareback and he wouldn't twitch a muscle, but when he blew a fuse, a pro cowboy couldn't have stayed on him and my husband will have quite a recovery ahead of him. I know this will anger some, but I wish this horse had never been run through the ring with a rider and would have gone to slaughter. A human life is worth more than an animals life any day. And yes I have had horses a good portion of my life and am not new to this, I know I should have known better, but the drought last year and the higher gas prices and feed prices have forced many to sell off their horses at auction because there is no market elsewhere.
