Weight Loss Surgery, Diabetes and CDL?

I hope someone has a little insight into this situation. I am Type 2 diabetic, have been for about 17 years. I have spoken to numerous individuals that have had weight loss surgery and have reduced or eliminated their need for diabetes medications. If my diabetes progresses to the point where I need insulin, I will be unemployed with my current employer and I am afraid that time is getting close. I will then have the option of a lengthy process to be allowed to drive with insulin or find employment that pays about a quarter of what I earn now. I also have medical insurance, but with an exclusion for weight loss surgery. Am I wrong in thinking that weight loss surgery would be a reasonable accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act in order to keep me working? I am a CDL holder working for a company that carries hazardous materials. Opinions appreciated!!

There are those on Yahoo that take the view that medical science is the only solution to diabetes. Please understand that long term diabetics seem to believe this and as a result are suffering needlessly. Diabetes IS A PROBLEM WITH FAT TISSUE as well as blood sugar. Insulin receptors on cell membranes can be repaired by the body. As a type 2 diabetic, please realize that after 17 years of regulating your blood sugar, the receptor cells are exhausted, fatigued, and will take some time to repair.

When you see diabetes "CURED," yes I said the word, cured, it is difficult to not tell people how it was done and to give some hope to this medical dogma that says "diabetes cannot be cured."

Here is a MEDICAL DOCTOR documentary that you should see that cured 6 people of type 2 diabetes. Each of these people were off ALL MEDICATION in 1 week. That in of itself is an strong indication that what he is doing is far more progressive and hopeful than 17 to 20 years of taking drugs to regulate blood sugar.

I have practitioner friends that are with Dr. Cousins as I write this answer to you right now. This work is incredible and is working.

Please realize that ANYONE that tells you weight loss is NOT a factor in diabetes simply does not understand how the body works and is ignorant of the role Leptin hormone has in the utilization of insulin and glucagon in the body. It is important to understand that with proper use of carbohydrates, in a blood sugar handling diet, the blood sugar can be stabilized. Once this is done, the endocrine system can be addressed. The adipose tissue secretes Leptin hormone and as a primitive survival mechanism regulates how the body deals with glucose.

To blame genetics of a person for diabetes in the massive quantity that is happening in the United States is ludicrous. Diet absolutely plays a huge factor in diabetes today. The quality of food, the type of food, and the lack of nutrients in food are enormously responsible for many of the diabetes problems we face today.

If you are serious about doing something about your diabetes, you need to look beyond the typical way diabetes is being handled today. That regimen is a life sentence from so called medical experts that are playing GOD without the proper credentials.

Watch the video and realize that a solution like that is possible and it is just fine to be skeptical, but understand that it is a very cheap solution and worth the effort to find out. Call Dr. Cousins and talk to him. See what he can offer. The only thing you have to lose is a few weeks out of your life and the drugs you may be taking or are going to have to take for life support.

Weight loss surgery should never be an option for you. That is treating a symptom, not the cause. Focus on solving the problem, not just putting a bandaid on it.

    good luck to you

Type 2 diabetes, usually referred to as adult onset, is when your body produces insulin but can not use it properly. This type can be treated successfully with the right diet and exercise in most circumstances. Read here https://tr.im/ZPtKr

If blood sugars are not kept under control at some point insulin will probably be integrated / oral medications are also available. People with diabetes can live long, happy lives but must be diligent in their care and make sure you see your endocrinologist on a regular basis.

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.

You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didnt get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.

It's VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out this video here: http://www.sexyjese.com/ - it will blow your mind.

It may be that your calories are too low...your body might be hanging on to the fat because you're not giving it enough calories... Look at your calorie intake versus what you are burning throughout the day (your BMR plus whatever you burn during exercise)... Also, upping your exercise to 5 or 6 days a week may help...and realize that it may take several weeks for changes to be apparent...your body may be burning fat and building muscle, so the scales don't show fat loss because of the heavier muscle tissue (muscle is heavier than fat, by volume)...

The ADA states that a covered entity shall not discriminate against a qualified individual with a disability.[6] This applies to job application procedures, hiring, advancement and discharge of employees, workers' compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment. Covered entity can refer to an employment agency, labor organization, or joint labor-management committee, and is generally an employer engaged in interstate commerce and having 15 or more workers.[7] Discrimination may include, among other things, limiting or classifying a job applicant or employee in an adverse way, denying employment opportunities to people who truly qualify, or not making reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of disabled employees, not advancing employees with disabilities in the business, and/or not providing needed accommodations in training. Employers can use medical entrance examinations for applicants, after making the job offer, only if all applicants (regardless of disability) must take it and it is treated as a confidential medical record. Qualified individuals do not include any employee or applicant who is currently engaging in the illegal use of drugs when that usage is the basis for the employer's actions.[8]

Part of Title I was found unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court in the case of Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama v. Garrett as violating the sovereign immunity rights of the several states as specified by the Eleventh Amendment to the United States Constitution. The provision allowing private suits against states for money damages was invalidated.

The fact that you're overweight is not the disease, your diabetes is. they are not discriminating against you because you are overweight, which is not a disability in your case. Reasonable accommodations mean things like providing sharps containers for employees to dispose of insulin syringes, having elevators and ramps for those on wheelchairs, and having handicapped accessable bathrooms. Not the ability to have an elective surgery. even though it may improve your condition, it's still elective. and the ada doesn't even apply to your insurance company.

you're stuck. pay for it yourself or find another job.
