DvD playback ?

For avi, you may need divx player to view it, or you have just got a bad download.

I found avi a pain to burn as it takes too long to convert, unless you have a compatable home dvd player in which case should be pretty straight forward or take a look at link for more info on various options.

Easiest way is to download kvcd, these are cue & bin files, you just, click on burn image in alchohol, find the cue file where your download was saved, click start and thats it, takes about 4 mins. Unless your happy to spend hours trying to convert and burn a dvd.

You have several options to burn dvds with, nero, alcohol 120%, roxio, so many that without knowing what your trying to do, i cant help much.

You really need codecs. Windows media player has an automatic codec download feature. To activate this open windows media player click options and check download codecs automatically. when you play the video and wmp doesn't have the codec, it will download it for you.

Some are just crappy like that. . .same thing happens to me too, just make sure to download the film with the highest amount of bytes
