    Try these free sites first:

    www.usgenweb.com

    www.cyndislist.com

    www.rootsweb.com

    Other resources:

    www.genealogy.com

    www.ancestry.com

Start with what you know, grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, brothers and sisters. Move from there on to cousins, aunts and uncles, and so on down the line.

There are many programs you can purchase to keep track of everyone. There are also free ones you can get on the web.

Just go to your favorite search engine and type in free genealogy programs or free family tree programs.

    Good luck in your search

Usually you start with the family that you know and work from there. Ask older family members about others that they may know about.

If you need to know how to organize it, you can get books from the library or do a search on line. there are also several computer programs that can help you organize the information.

It is a long process if you are trying to go back many generations. Just keep at it.

you need a program called Family Tree Maker, and then add the info you know ... after that ... make lists of what you need from other family members and mail/email or deliver them with a note telling you what you are doing ... or organize a family reunion with this sole intention.

Ancestry.com offers "how-to" help on getting started...
