Do you think the monotheistic religions need to apologize for the murders they have committed?
Millions have been murdered over the centuries, condoned by organized churches and in the name of God. Do you think it is about time to acknowledge error, repent and not continue to make these same mistakes again?

Any religion that has condoned murder in its name needs to do more than just apologize.
And Christians need to consider that Jesus had people who disagreed with his religious ideas, but he never killed them. He went so far as to say "Love your enemies."
It is the shame of some religions that they have been so bloodthirsty. It is religion that needs to repent.

SunFun, THANK you for posing this question. As a practicing Wiccan for more than 36 years I have NEVER heard of ANY Religious authority actually standing up and saying "We were wrong when we did that, We are SO sorry that it happened and we ask for your forgiveness".
Yes, Pope John Paul admitted that SOME wrongs were comitted by the Inquisition but STILL did not make an Apology for those actions. ALL the Abrahamic Religions have killed and persecuted others, to say nothing of each other, in the name and under the "authority" of their Religious leaders. Perhaps ALL of the Abrahamic FAith Leaders need to stand up together, admit their wrongs on Hunamity as a whole, Make a genuine APOLOGY, and ASK each others' forgiveness and for forgiveness from the WORLD as a whole.
The thing is, however, this will NOT happen. With the litiguous atmosphere around the world, they're afradi that by doing that that will mean that they can be sued for ALL the wrongs that they have comitted and a public confession and request for forgiveness willl open up the way for lawsuits by ALL the survivors of those wrongdoings. They simply cannot fathom that ALL the World wants is an Apology and action to demonstrate contrition. That is easily demonstrated, just STOP jumping down non-believers throats, accept EACH others views, beliefs and practices in following the faiths of the God of Abraham, and BE as loving, compassionate, and Just, as you make CLAIM to be.
But the REST of us won't hold our breaths for such a "Divine Revelation" to occur to your leaders.
Brightest Blessings,

Good idea, in fact, why not the whole world repent of its' atrocites, muders, hatred, and all forms of evil and sin it has committed? Then the whole world would be one in Christ Jesus!!! How wonderful would that be!!!! Only if the world would ,but God has already seen the future and has said this present world is doomed. Good News, though, you aren't doom, you still have time to repent and accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior!!!! Won't you do it, while there is still time? God's arms are open today for you.
Jesus loves you.
God Bless

No religion ever killed anyone. People kill people.
If a church has protected or backed up a criminal because he or she was one of their representatives, however, then they should indeed acknowledge error, apologise to the victim or the victim's family and take steps to ensure that nobody representing them makes the same mistake again, as far as possible.

Polytheistic religions have done the same. But it's not so much that religions should apologize but the individuals that did the murders. If my priest told me to kill someone I would told him where he could go.

I know the Catholic Church has apologized for a lot of things publicly. I haven't seen that happening from other monotheistic churches/mosques, etc...

you really don't follow church actions, do you? I've seen churches even apologize for the brutality of the Native Peoples of their lands. we've said our sorries and try not to make the same mistakes
don't call the Inuit "Esk***s": it's offensive!

it would be a good idea, it would have been earlyer too, but they make the biggest sin: they are confounding evil with good. they sin while they think they do good deeds. thats why it's hard for me to believe they will appologise soon enough. besides, appologising would not take the actions they did back.

People are evil. Religion itself is Good. Your're forgetting the hundreds of saints that the Catholic church has produced and that that modern science began, because of teh Catholic Church! God bless.
