I'm 4'9", what size bike would be best for me? Thanks!?

Hi. I'm 5'0" and I guess our bike sizes wouldn't much differ. At present, I'm using a 52 cm c-c slooping top-tube Ti Van Nicholas frame, however I still have one - Cinelli Proxima Size XS. It has a slooping top tube of 51.2 cm c-c and its seat tube is 47 cm center of BB to top-of-seat tube which is equivalent to effective seat tube of only 45 cm c-top-of-top tube . Performance wise I prefer to use the Cinelli as I find the Van Nicholas frame a little bit tall for me; it's effective seat tube is taller by 5cm. Both frames are utilizing 700c wheelsets. If you are new to biking, there are so many things that should be considered in the bike selection, not only the right frame size but the components as well so I would suggest you visit a local bike shop near your place wherein your legs and arms measurement will be taken and an equivalent bike size will be fitted for you and finally a good recommendation on the proper components. If you're looking for a road bike, then go with Terry. Terry as a company accomplishes the challenge of size on a road bike by having a smaller front wheel which changes the geometry and changes the rider's box. Be ready to buy a big seat bag because you will need tubes for two different size wheels. Know that these are woman specific bikes, but if you're a confident male who gives a hoot. What it means is that the bike is smaller so that it fits a smaller framed athlete. I rode a cruddy old centurion that was pink! I would get ribbing by people I didn't even know and found intense satisfaction by smoking them and their 5 thousand dollar bike. Bon chance!

First off what type of bike are looking for? Road bikes are measured differently from other bikes. If a road bike is what you're looking for, try a 45-47 cm frame on a standard frame and an XS on a compact frame. Most companies make them but they aren't in high demand so bike shops generally don't display many copies of them- if any at all. Go to a bike shop and pay the cash to get fitted first. I'm pretty sure that you're around those frame sizes.sizes, but a good fit will insure that your bike is tailored to you- meaning you will be very comfortable.

Guys legs are proportionally shorter than the same height female. soo if you are a guy, you may have to go 24". But in either case, F or M, try the smallest framed (xs) 26'' wheels first, there is a better choice on wheels and tires.

Also try a 24" wheeled bike for comparison.

I am 4'9 also and I always had trouble with the 10 speed bikes, my legs were just too short to reach the pedals, good luck. :)

the only bikes that were sized for ALL sizes were cannondale bikes. all types all sizes all american made in new york or someplace near it anyway,good luck and happy not motoring!
