how long do you have to get out of a contract in tx?

My grandmother just bought a car, and she got a poor deal, I think she got robbed. She is 80 years old and this was her first car she ever bought. Her finance charges and fees are outrages. The car is full of miles. It has only been three days the third being today. Can I get her out of this? We live in Tx. Any help would be apprciated.

Most states are three days. If she'll have a shot at giving it back, she'll have to do it tomorrow. They may make an exception because of her age. Otherwise, you'll have to play hardball.

Texas consumer protection laws entitle a consumer to a 'cooling off' period if the purchase was made in the buyer's home after an unsolicitated presentation.

Your grandmother's situation does not qualify for protection under the statutes.

I would advise that you contact the texas elder abuse commission regarding preditory lending practices or take the car back to the dealer and tell them that if they do not release your grandmother from the contract (you'll most likely have to pay a premium for breach) you will file a complaint (or she will) with the state attorney general consumer affairs commission for preditory lending practices.

    3 business days.

At her age, I would suggest she bring the car back and leave it with them. What are they going to do? Come after her?

    ;)
