If I marry my pregnant girlfriend, will my insurance cover the expenses.blue cross/blue shield?

because she has been searching for an insurance, and they will not cover her since she is already pregnant. Any other suggestions in what I can do.

No. You would have had to added her to your insurance before she became pregnant in order for the pregnancy to be covered. Pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition.

The only insurance I think she may qualify for will be Medicaid or other government assistance.

I have just finished reading all these answers and I'm sorry but most of these answers are entirely incorrect. You will not be able to add her to your insurance policy and even if they insurance company does add herm they will NOT cover the pregnancy.

Depending on what state you live in which really shouldn't matter yes if you get married and put her on your insurance then the pregnancy and delivery as well as any medical costs she incures during that time will be covered. As long as there is no hold on pre-existing conditions with your company.

The only thing that I can suggest is to call Blue Cross up and ask. They would probably be the best people to answer your question. And you might need a referral from your family doctor. Look on the back of your card for a phone number.

Pregnancy IS considered a pre-existing condition, and that's not illegal. My husband and I had to wait to conceive until my disability insurance kicked in for that very reason. However, it was additional insurance to my basic coverage. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who will cover her. Good luck!

They might, you'd have to see what your plan covers, some do, some don't ... or has she applied for Medicaid? If she doesn't make a lot of money, she would probably be eligible for that... look in your phone book for the Department of Family Services in the government section, good luck~

Sorry I can’t answer your question, I’m from Aus and we have free health over here so we don’t need insurance. But I just wanted to say congratulations on being a daddy, you must be so proud!!! Good luck :)

okay first of all pregnancy is not considered a pre existing condition it is illegal to count it as that second if it is your child your insurance company will kick in and cover the baby's bill from the moment the child is born as of your gf/fiances medical they should cover it but it depends on the insurance but i believe most of them will but do not inquire with them until you are married because they may try to tell you they wont even though they will hoping you are not just doing it to get the coverage

oh and one more the congrats

if you marry her, you have 30 days to add her to you bcbs, and they will, i know, cuz that's my plan also.

that is actually the best bet, because as bad as it sounds, a hospital is only going to treat you as good as your insurance allows....so if you want her to have a comfortable, stress free labor and delivery, get her on your insurance.

my cousin had basic insurance and she received a low-dose epidural and felt the entire delivery plus her nurses were rude, AND she had to pay for co-pays, which i didn't have to pay.
