Can a Dvd-Burner make burn a VCD format movie using a DVD-R disc?

... Or does it have to be a regular cd-r in order for the burner to burn a vcd? and a dvd-r to burn dvds?

Thank you everyone

You will need to use a CD-R in order to burn a VCD.

A VCD must be readable by VCD players, and so thus must be a CD. (The laser is only made for CDs).

And DVD movies must be burnt to DVDs.
