The Donner Party?
I've just recently heard that the Donner Party did not really go over Donner Pass, but the next pass to the South, Roller Pass. Is there any truth to this?

One group seperated from the Donner Party at what is now Donner Pass and reached California without incident. The Donner Party and another party went a different direction, got lost and then bad weather set in. One member of the family managed to get through and 4 attempts at rescue were made before all survivors were rescued. Half or a little more perished.

What is truly tragic about the Donner Party story is that in order for some to survive, the dead were cannibalized.

I think it was because some teen-aged native americans stole all the road signs to decorate their dorm rooms.
