Why do other races always see it as a racist thing if they don't get what they want?
I'm white. I'm an Austrian.
So when I moved to America, I was shocked that when I offended a black person as a HUMAN (I did not make it racial, I didn't even see it as a racial thing until he brought it up), he goes off on "Yea? You is being one racist mutha-f#@$er, you're people ENSLAVED my people"
I was shocked by this because I'm an Austrian... we didn't have black slaves exclusively. If we ever had slaves, it was indentured servants and they were of all colors and nationalities. It wasn't some racist thing, but everywhere I go, it seems they always make it a racial issue.
"My son can't read, you all need to put more money into black schools"
Or look at BET. I was confused at first. Why do blacks have their own channel? Why are they segregating themselves? If they want equality, they should be EQUAL, not superior.
I've come to realize that these issues have not helped inner-racism in people, but have refined them. If they would act as equals, then we would treat them as such.
No atlantaboi, I'm trying to find out the reason to different sociological mindsets.
I've only asked those 2 questions, and they are on different topics.
What I want to know is why there is such a big gap in between the races when the goal has been to bring them together.
It seems the more other races try to integrate and live like each other, the more torn apart we become.
To thedrisin, I understand your underlying concept, but the fact is that the ones being "victimized" nowadays aren't the ones who suffered.
If somebody killed your great-grandfather, should you be able to go to the killer's descendants and say you want reperations?
My main thing is that it is unfair that in order for minorities to feel equal they have to be superior by not only raising them on high but also by handicapping the white race.
Take this into account: schools MUST deny a white student that has a 4.3 GPA and perfect SAT score in order to meet their "black student quota".
I got denied to MIT. They chose a black student with a 3.8 GPA and lower testing scores over me because of the fact they need to meet their quota.
I went back the next year and was whole heartedly accepted, but I'm already off to another college now, so I can't afford to switch.
I can barely find scholarships that don't have a "you must not be white to get this" clause in there.
To elaborate on what I did to offend him MEMO, I was in English class and was asked to read a passage in a book written in Ebonics.
I had a hard time learning English and I tried hard to read Ebonics but I couldn't do it, I don't know how to pronounce those words.
When he asked me why I couldn't read it, I said "I can't understand it, it all look like jibberish to me."
He got offended by me saying that I can't read it and I said "I don't want to make a big deal out of this, you're blowing out of proportion the fact that I can't read slang English"
Which is what Ebonics is, slang English.
Also Memo, if minorities aren't being represented in the general media, then why do I see them everywhere in the media?
You can't be serious. If minorities feel there are too little of them in the media, then they should go forth into more media jobs!
Now, I agree with what atlantaboi said, there are racist white people.
These bastards need to die. To hate someone because they look different is humbug.
And maybe I don't understand the culture of America because I'm from Austria, but that's why I'm asking these questions, to try to see WHY things are the way they are.
When people from this country can't even tell me why things are this way, there is a problem. Ego is foregoing reason.
Curious_Mum, in Austria we live in harmony too. I would love to visit Singapore one day.
But my issue is why America seems to have this problem.
And it's really exclusive to America. I've lived in other countries, never had any problems with another race. I have black friends, white friends, oriental friends, hispanic friends. All kinds of friends!
But in America, blacks seem to segregate themselves and assume that everyone is racist against them.
Actually, good point here, I watched that show "Black and White", and the whole time the black couple that were made up to be white went around avidly looking for racists. "What do you think of the ***** problem around here?"
The white couple that were made up to look black went around doing everyday tasks and they saw no difference.

You know I am so tired of the racism issue where people of color think that white people are just out to get them and that we are all racist. But how would they see it if we had a channel called WET white entertainment channel or the the united whitey college fund??? and all the other perks they get, did you know if you are from another country and you start a business here you dont have to pay taxes for 7 yrs. what the hell is that??? I think everyone should be treated equally no matter what color you are but unfortunately that is never going to happen its really sad! People want to be treated equally yet they ask for all this special treatment...I have gotten sick of the race card myself especially because other people that are different races think that white people don't like them because of their race but really its deeper than that like they are shallow or just plain a**holes you cant like everyone.. and racial harmony that is just a pathetic joke we all know that will never happen, simply for the fact that other races don't want to be treated equal they want to be treated better... this world is pathetic. sorry this is so long btw.

It is a fact that blacks in the past, had been mistreated to say the least. They were hunted down by hunters in Africa, their
families split up and they were sold to rich Americans as slaves.
G washington, first president of the thirteen states, had children by his slaves. They were discriminated against, in many ways.
Some blacks, go around believing that society owes them something, and my Opinion is, that no one owes them anything, and this descrimination has actually reversed, where in cases, whites, are descriminated against.
White owned companies in America basically all companies,
have to hire 15% , blacks, and or minorities.
You go to JET magazine, and try and get a job, it seems like black companies do not have to meet this requirement.
which is reverse descrimination.
Blacks, have always had someone to represent, or lead them, Martin Luther KIng, Jesse Jackson, and these leaders, through riots,,throughout the USA, or by bargaining, with politicians, for the black vote, has brought them rights, that equal or surpass, any other races'.
As far as extreme white supremacy groups, like KKK, skinheads, and others, are just that, extreme.
Many whites believe that they are superior to blacks, at times
proving that they are inferior, because of their beliefs, and actions.
Through minorities, a lot of requirements in most fields were lowered to give them, that equal opportunity.
Now, Minorities are asking, to lower test grades, or standards, to get in the highest education Universities
of America. I believe that nothing should be lowered, and if anyone can meet these standards, as they are, should
be able to attend these universities.
I believe there will always be hate in the world, wether it is related to race, religion, culture...Etc . man will always be fighting, and some time we may even have a race war.
Whites never had any leaders to represent them, or fight
for their deminishing rights. Extreme supremacy groups, represent only a small fraction of whites.
You said about ebonics, well! I think it is entertaining, and should stay on the street, and not be taught to any groups, they should learn English, we should not change English for them, or include, this nonsense in our language.

Why do you keep asking these questions? You only want your answers to say you are not racist. Geez. You are making yourself look racist.
Well if you want to come down between Blacks and Whites. There is a lot of tension. First we have slavery. Then that went away. Then we made them a second class society until someone like the wonderful and sensational Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X came along and helped make things the way they should have always been. That was not that long ago. Tensions are still high with that.
Black people have been dealt an injustice almost always. Their are a lot of repurcusions because of what happened. It will take time for this to heal.
Sadly you still have a lot of racist white people who think they are better. This makes Black people be defensive. Then thankfully you have a majority of Black and White people that are integrating just fine and the world is changing. It is changing slowly, but it is changing.
Time heals wounds. All these wounds with what was done to Black people are still fresh. You still have grandchildren of slaves alive today. You still have a huge amount of Black people that had to endure civil rights. It will take time.
You also have a lot of White people who need to change. That will take time too. Hate has been breed in them by older generations. They are dying now and eventually the hate won't be taught anymore.
I undestand this is tough when you are from Austria. Our society is much different and the US has a much different past.

Why don't you try "mentally" wearing the shoe for a few moments to see how it fits?
Let's pretend that you have a condition where you have been in a wheelchair all your life. You have never known anything different... and you know that everyone, from the kids at school to new teachers to the woman at the grocery store has treated you differently... perhaps, once they get to know you, they are more comfortable... but strangers are different...
Anyway, don't you think that if you were continually put in new situations where you didn't get what you wanted, from a loan at the bank or service at a store to hooking up with women to being stopped by the police to whatever... that you would be constantly "wondering"... If I wasn't in a wheelchair, would they have treated me differently? I mean, you would never know... maybe they would and maybe not... but there is no way to really differentiate...
I totally understand where you are coming from, because you yourself may not have racist "intentions..." And it sounds like this one black person was pretty ignorant and jumped to conclusions... but that's no reason to ascribe that mentality to every single black person or minority or situation (e.g. the BET channel is not an attempt to be "equal," just an attempt to have a culturally appropriate tv channel to a specific group of people... like what if Australians wanted their own US tv network (or online site or whatever)... not because they saw themselves as "superior," but so they could keep a connection to Australia and discuss/buy/whatever Australian "things" that they know that they "typical" American would not be interested in...)
And to understand American history, you do need to understand the years and years of persecution and prejuidice that black people suffered... I'm not saying that your final conclusion is wrong (e.g. "Act like equals and you'll be treated like one") - I'm just saying the situation is not so simple and you might want to try to understand a bit more where other people are coming from...
Updated Response: No one is trying to kill anyone's grandparents... and no one is trying to "feel superior by handicapping the white race..." If that is how you see things, (that it is "handicapping the white race" every time you don't get something you feel you deserve and that it goes to someone of a different race) - then I submit to you that that it a very racist way of viewing the world...
In addition, I'm sorry you didn't get into MIT. But the point is that there are limited resources in the world, and the goal of affirmative action is to allocate those resources more widely and to people who might not have had the basic or foundational advantages that other people have had... because of their race or poverty or whatever... it is not a perfect system... but minorities (blacks) are underrepresented in many fields (media, science, etc) - and this is one way to try to "correct" or compensate for it...

If some American blacks "see it as a racist thing," that doesn't mean that "other races" always see it that way.Once you've heard some whites complain about "reverse racism," you won't say "other races" either.
You've made the same mistake that you accuse others of making, and it's no wonder. This is the nature of humans to make snap judgments and then seek justification to support that initial reaction.

wtf? at first i thought you were just ignorant...and now i think that ignorance has manifested into racism.
first off what did you say to offend him? you didnt really explain that part.....
there are a lot of hispanic, asian, and black specific programs in place because of our racist history - duh
minorities are not really represented in the general media thats why we make our own programs. not too many people have a problem with that except for the closet racists like you. take away minority specfic programs and affirmative action - you wont see minorities anywhere without recognition for anything.
also different people can identify with different things. 90 percent of all the programs are probably all white. then what happens? by having these programs we arent segregating ourselves lol where the hell did you get that one? we are marking a place in society for ourselves that would otherwise not exist.
Source(s): LMAO "if they act like equals we'll treat them that way" oh wow... yeah. racist. - jazzeman44Lv 41 decade ago
i don't know but i think black people think that all whites were previous slave owners, i run into the same problem were 2nd generation American and we always get accused of this slave thing which my family had nothing to do with either here or in Italy, but i think its a shame that its out there like that people are people and where I'm from discrimination doesn't exist. wish it were like that in the states..

i have had personal experience with some people like that. some black people are really ghetto and say things that make everybody think they are the victim. some ghetto black people feed to their stereotype, by being ghetto and ignorant. i have people get made at me and my friend for joking about "black" topics, and we are both mixed, IM HALF BLACK!!! just try not to get in their way too much. try to meet some intelligent and nice black people though! and welcome to America!

If we would all spend a little more time actually TALKING to each other about things like this instead of writing and venting and ranting, the problem would be solved.
