No. When printing in high volume, Screen printing is a lower cost. You see, once you have the artwork made, you just PRINT, PRINT, PRINT.

But digital methods can be more costly in high volume. Digital is great for ONE at a time, but in high volume, it isn't cheap enough.

The idea world will use Digtal to create the screens; which are done in the screen printing process.

High end art will still demand the kind of quality that screen printing provides. Screen printing can still be applied to many more surfaces. Just try putting your CAR through your color laser printer.... It just won't go.

    Good luck and Happy Computing!

    No still alive and well

There are two or three very busy screen printing businesses near me that print t-shirt designs for shops

Computers have not had the same impact on the industry as in photography, not yet anyway

Well 9 years on form your original question and from our perspective screen printing is still very much alive! We are digital, litho & screen printers and the screen side of our business is still very much in demand. Screen printing uses vibrant, highly durable inks, it is a very versatile technique and is still a much sought after printing process for products like brand labels, machine fascias and keypad overlays.

If you're talking about printing images from your computer monitor screen, all you need to do is take a "snapshot" using the PrintScreen and Control keys together (or it might be the Alt key), which puts an image of the screen into your Clipboard folder. Then you need to paste that image into your favorite graphics program, and go from there.

Seems like it . . . I started that business a year ago, and didn't make it. Lots of competition out there, and lots of bad printers (especially on the internet). But it can be done if you have good business savy.
