Ask this question a good 10 to 15 years after Timmy retires and you'll get different answers. People are not going to give Tim Duncan the credit he deserves, they never have and they never will. Besides, he doesn't care, so why should you? He could care less what people are saying on this board about him. At the end of his career he will atleast have the hardware to comfort him (season MVP's, finals MVP's, and most importantly his Championship rings)

No way. Larry Bird was the definitely better - a much better shooter, a great defender, just a very, very competitve and versatile player.
To me, hearing Duncan and Bird together in the same sentence is just not right. Duncan is a great center, but overall he's not even close to Bird.
Larry Bird is up there with Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Walt Chamberlain and Hakeem Olajuwon. Tim Duncan is not in that group.

My jaw dropped that this question would even be asked. First of all, they didn't even play the same position. Second, Tim Duncan compared to Larry Bird is like comparing Magic Johnson to Tony parker. Well.....Not really but you get the concept.

This is an apples-to-oranges question, it seems. Duncan has more defensive and in-the-paint skills than Bird did. Bird had more offensive and perimeter skills.
In terms of dominance and overall impact on the game and its history, yes, Bird is better. But people will still answer differently depending on what they personally value. If you like a certain type of player more than another, Duncan might fit your ideal better.

Not a good comparison really. Duncan is the best power forward ever while Bird was a small forward. If I had to pick between the two Duncan would be my choice.
