Your are not apt to repress something unless it is negative- no need otherwise.

Repression is a defensive attempt to keep something from conscious awareness because it is too threatening, overwhelming, anxiety-provoking, etc.

If successful, it will remain out of awarness. It is possible that it may not inevitably lead to a manisfestation of struggling; or is may happen many years in the future; or it could appear to "leak out" (such as in dreams and nightmares) very soon after the event that lead to the effort to repress.

    Many variables.

  • I am an RN and Hempsted is absolutely right, repressed thoughts, feelings, emotions or events are repressed into your subconcious mind because they are too difficult for your conscious mind to deal with.

To answer your question directly, I can only tell you that most of your repressed memories will remain repressed forever unless they are triggered by someone or something related to that repressed memory. .........Keep this in mind when thinking about what you may or may not have repressed............ the repressed memories are probably best kept repressed and although many people think that they would like to know what they are actually repressing, they need to remember that bringing back those memories may be more than your mind can handle. Our brains are very complex organs and therefore although you may think you would prefer to remember most things there is a very good reason why your brain has repressed those memories and you are most likely better off to not remember them, they could be too difficult or heartbreaking to deal with and as the saying goes.........what you dont know wont hurt you. (except in those cases where NOT remembering certain devastating experiences could be harmful to you and or to others and in those rare instances, professional advice must be sought)

Yes, when repressing something important to your mental/emotional/physical development, in my opinion.
