Community property?

I'm getting married in July. Will the things I currently own, (such as my car), become my husbands after we get married? Or, do they remain my property, and anything we acquire together after marriage is both of ours? Just curious.

Update:

I should mention I live in Oregon, which isn't a community property state. What I meant by my question is if he has any legal rights to do things with my property once we get married if I don't want him to.

I think if your thiking along those lines you might want to rethink getting married at this time, being married is hard enough with out having it's just mine or just his.

You need to understand that the first two years are going to be real hard at time and the first thing you need to do is share what you can and marriage is never 50-50.

As soon as you have anything joint with him, like a bank account, credit cards,or properties, you are financially linked to him. If he owes others money, the creditors will come after you and your assets. Same applies to him.

You should really have a clear understanding of the guy's finances. If he is in huge debts, you will be sucked in one way or another. Don't be blinded by love. If you have a lot to lose, take steps to protect yourself and not be swayed.
