How do YOU battle insomnia?

I go through fits of insomnia: at times, over-the-counter sleep medication can help, but often enough it doesn't. I'll ache with tiredness, but still be unable to fall asleep. How do you battle insomnia?

i dont think i have insomnia, but sometimes i get HORRIBLE sleeping habits, now that its summertime, and these are some things i do

*Read a book in a lower set of light (bad for the eyes but whatever it helps a lot)

*watch a boring movie, or one i watch all the time then i BORE myself to sleep

*invite my sibling to come talk me to sleep

*Take out paper and draw( idk me and my friends have discussed it, and it works, i think the mental work of thinking of what to draw works on your body too)

    *Listen to music

*take a warm bath or shower before

*Sex or masturbation might make you tired (hey if your into that kinda stuff)

*spoon with a pillow (AKA make yourself as comfortable as possible, it really should help)

Hope one atleast works for you! haha

Here are some things that you can try:

    1. Drink warm milk before sleeping.

    2. Take valerian herbal tea before sleeping. This helps to relax you.

    3. Melotonin is a natural supplement that induces relaxation and sleep.

    4. Do not engage in brain stimulating work before sleeping such as watching TV or reading books.

    5. Meditate.

I got the above ideas from this site and for more ideas, you can check them out here

Sometimes a restless mind can keep you awake even when you're tired. Try my favorite: Animal-Vegetable-Mineral, start with the letter A in each category [aardvark, avocado, aluminium, etc.] and if you're anything like Moi, you'll be asleep before you hit the H's. Like counting sheep, but thinking up different things with each letter distracts you from a busy-busy-busy head... Works equally well with geography [Alberta, Albuquerque, Assam....zzzzzzz]. Bonne nuit!

i've dealt with this before, and it's annoying.

i think you might be stressing too much. if your mind is running, it can overpower sleep medicine. you may not even be stressing about life. you're probably stressing about falling asleep.

just don't think about anything. and ultimately, you should realize that if you have a bad night of sleep, or even a week of bad sleep, you're still going to be okay. so don't worry about it, just go with the flow. if you can't sleep, stay up! watch tv or something. you'll be alright.

    good luck!

Try this age old trick. Tighten all the muscles in your body and slowly start to relax the from your toes up. Also try to stay away from sugar caffeine, and food in general. Not only will having to go to the bathroom wake you up...you might not be able to get back to sleep. Hope I helped!

Regardless of lack of sleep, go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning even if you are overtired from the lack of sleep. Soon your body will give in to tiredness.

Stress can be the reason you don't sleep so I would talk to your doctor.

If all those suggestions before me fail, get a script for Ambien for a month (which is about all they will give you anyway). Just a note of warning, you could have some really strange side effects...don't try driving or anything when you take one of these!

Change the mattress you sleep on, reduce the amounts of caffeine you take in before bed time, change the lighting in you room, and work out during the day.

i go to gym at 8:30 pm till 9:30 then take a bath at 10:30 then i'm good to go. have you tried drinking warm milk before you lay down on your bed. most people recommend that. i never tried medications or drugs that can help you sleep, i think its not safe.

Honestly, I just roll with it. Watch TV until I fall asleep again.
