Brett Favre the greatest quarterback ever?

Can anybody give me any reasons why Brett Favre isn't the greatest quarterback ever? Don't give me the excuse that his numbers over the last couple years have been terrible because it doesn't matter who is quarterback with the talent that they had on the team over the past couple of years they would have sucked.

well people will say he is not the greatest ever because they are biased towards their own favorite QBs. i won't give you reasons why he isn't the greatest but i can give you reasons why he IS the greatest in my opinion.

Had great Success with limited talent around him ( sharp was good but not there long enough)

    Only 3X MVP

Will be winningest QB ever after this year

Will hold most Major Carreer passing records after this year

won 1/2 superbowls he played in.

Has record for most consecutive starts by a QB when doctors said he wouldn't play more then 5 years after his accident that toar several feet of intestine.

Could have easily broken each single game passing record on the MNF after his dad had passed away had Sherman kept passing in the second half, but he ran the ball for the last half and Favre had stopped at 399 yards and 4 TDs in the first HALF of the game.

those are my reasons why he is the Greatest QB in history now here are my reasons why other names that have come up are not

    Montana-

Great QB but alot of his success was in part of his surrounding cast. ( Could you imagine Favre throwing to Rice it would be insane!)

    Elway-

is a strong canidate for #1 but Favre has the better Stats and Elway only has 1 more ring then Favre. And Favre will have more wins by the end of his career.

    Marino-

Lack of ring keeps him out of the #1 spot

    Unitas-

Are you kidding me? i do not see a reason why he should be top 5 let alone best ever

    Steve Young- (See Montana)

there i think i have a reasonable argument but im sure i will get thumbs down

( you should give me best answer!)

A great QB, Top 20 all time, not greatest ever. With 45+ years of watching the NFL here is my Top 5: 1) Elway 2) Marino 3) Unitas 4) Staubach 5) Montana To Willy - talk about a R-Tard - Elway never lost 4 SBs, he was 2-3 in the 5 SBs he appeared in and the first 3 Denver would have never even been there if it hadn't been for Elway. He carried those 3 teams to the SBs. The 5 I listed as the best could carry a team all on their own talents. Favre is a great QB but never has had that talent.

I'm a Packer fan, but objectively speaking, I have to say no.

He's definitely the most durable and the toughest quarterback I have ever seen play though.

Yes, he will break some of Marino's long-standing records, but let's face it, he's only going to hold them for a short while if Peyton carries on playing to a high standard (and plays for at least six seasons after Brett retires).

And don't forget that in the twilight of his career, a lot of his numbers have come in an era where the league has treated QB's like glass dollies, unlike some other greats who played in times where they could basically be teed off upon in every play.

Let me throw some names at you, just a handful:

Unitas, Bradshaw, Montana, Elway, Marino (despite no ring).

There are many more, and in the ongoing debate about greatest QB ever, you can add Brett to those list of names (as you will undoubtedly do with Manning (P!) and Brady in a few years), but you would have to come up with very good arguments in favour of Brett to trump the glimmer of talent that I have mentioned.

Conclusion: he warrants discussion, but probably not the greatest.

    Sorry!!!!!!!!!

I am a huge Packers fan. I love Brett Favre and he is a first time HOF lock. But I don't think he is the greatest ever because he has played poorly in too many playoff games. The best quarterback is the one who can withstand the pressure and lead his team to victory in the big games. With that, I would offer up Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman and Tom Brady as candidates with for the "greatest" title, noting that Unitas, Starr, Montana and Brady all led their teams on winning Championship drives.

Sooo, my winner is Bart Starr--the ONLY NFL QB with five championships, and the ONLY NFL QB to have won three in a row.

    Go Pack Go!!

If you dont want numbers in the past couple years then look @ the numbers all time Young, Montana, & Brady all have more rings than Farve which is the most important thing for a QB & the 3 MVP's were impressive but it was @ a time where there werent as many elite QB"s as ther are now or were in the past so yeah Farve is a 1st try HOF but will probably neer go down (outside of Green Bay) as da best QB ever

  • Sorry, but Favre isn't even in the top-3, let alone the #1 spot.

In this order, here are the greatest QBs:

    1. Montana -- most efficient QB ever. 4 SB championships.

    2. Elway -- 2 SB wins. 5 SB starts (NFL record). Incredible durability. He took three awful teams to the SB during the 1980s.

    3. Marino -- best pocket passer ever, but his records will eventually fall to Manning. Never won a SB.

    4. Unitas -- I'm too young to have seen him play, but in an era before the modern passing game caught on, he held all records before Tarkenton and Marino.

    5. Lots of QBs could be here.

How about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning? Brady has more rings (like Montana), but Manning is a better pocket passer (like Marino).

How about Steve Young, Dan Fouts, Warren Moon, and Fran Tarkenton, who all had great stats (but not as high as Favre), as well as Aikman, Bradshaw, and Kelly who have been to more SBs than Favre.

Favre? He won three MVPs, but so did Unitas. He's been to two SBs, but then Jim Kelly went to four. He has lots of stats, but so do Marino and Manning and Elway. He's had lots of talent on his teams: Sharpe, Freeman, Brooks, Chmura, Levens, Green. Heck, he even had Reggie White on defense. Elway never had a fraction of that much talent during the 1980s. And what's he done the last few years while he's trying to break Elway's record for most regular season wins? His team has been horrible. What did Elway do his last two seasons? Oh yeah, he won two SBs.

well i would give it up to joe montana for the best quarterback ever because of the more superbowls and the talent. brett favre is a hell of a quarterback though, hes going to break all of dan marinos major records and marino was a hell of a quarterback so that says something.

Source(s): a fan of football that tries to not to be biased. im not a 49er or packer fan but i dont hate either so im not biased on this desicion.

Not to put Favre down, but I'd say Tom Brady is the better candidate for best QB ever. He's a better clutch player, great arm and 3 Superbowl rings. Plus there's the fact that he is young and has several years of play left in him.

But I'm a Pats fan so I'm obviously biased.

He's a top ten candidate and a great athlete. He is very inconsistent , even though it has to do with other elements. Brady and Manning are both better, and will remain better at the end of their career. As far as people saying you have to have better players to be a better qb, you also have to be a better qb to make people realize how good those other players are as well. It's really a give and take kind of thing. He is amazing, but not even close to the best.

Favre was a good quarterback and will be a hall of famer...but he's no where near joe montana. Favre is just known for his durability and passion but he doesnt have all that many rings and his stats were never up to par as the all time greats.
