I did it naturally and it HURT. I heard putting cabbage leaves in the freezer then putting the on your breasts after they get cold a few times really helps. I wander if that is a Texas tradition or have other people heard of this? I also heard there is a shot the doctor can give you to dry it up, but also heard that may not be very safe either.

wear a tight bra, it will be painful for a couple of days, I had to express milk (which doesn't help the drying up) a couple of times a day, cos i was filling up too much and it became painful. It might be best to cut down on the feeds that you give slowly. Like feed her from the bottle most of the day but breast feed just before her bedtime. So that your boobs can adjust slowly. Good luck. P.S. I did feel sad when i gave up breast feeding, but you can't do it forever.

I breast fed 3 babies for between 9 and 10 months. When I decided it was time to stop I just started to put off feeding the baby breast milk until it felt uncomfortable for me. Each day I could wait longer to feed baby because your body produces milk according to demand. The less you feed the less you produce. It may take a couple of weeks and the night time feed is usually the last to go. If you do it slowly and naturally it is an easy transition for mum and baby.

Cut down your fluid intake wear a tight bra and loose tops be prepared for uncomfortable boobs I think it was about a week before I was not worried about leaking and I think there was a pill you could take to dry your milk ,but it was 18 years ago I gave up feeding my baby so there is probably better advice than this now

If you want it to be painfree than you need to slowly wean but that will take time....anything abrupt will hurt. You will first become engorged and your chest will be very very full...I suggest icepacks (frozen bags of peas) and cabbage leaves. Doctors will no long prescibe soemthng because they found serious side effects. It will take anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Don't stimulate the breasts at all. Wrap them up sometimes helps, wear your bra constantly and it does sooth them to take a bath and lean forward so your breasts are in the water. good luck.

Stop breastfeeding gradually, give the bottle for some of the feeds, and breastfeed about twice a day, just to use some of the milk up. and don't forget to wear breastpads. you will have to do this as your breasts will be very heavy and full.

I expressed for a couple of weeks after I had finished b/f and used the milk in bottles for both my babies... gradually increased the time between expressing and reduced the amount... and supply dries up.. no pain!! no cabbage leaves necessary!!

I was told to really tighten my bra and let things happen naturally.

For me, it seemed I seem to dry up and then suddenly 'leak' again and then dry up! I did find that once that uncomfortable feeling went away, i was still producing milk. Whatever you do, please don't express any, even though you know it will make things more comfortable as this will only stimulate you to produce more milk.

Good luck and enjoy your little one!

I mixed bottle and breast and slowly weaned my boy off, I dryed up quite quickly and painlessly, and it took next to no time. Good luck hon.

my milk went on its own, the breasts only supply what is needed, so dont express as it will thimk u still need it, i was told to try nipple shields so that if the breasts got too full it wud empty them a little to relieve them, but i never needed them, after a while the boobs stop swelling up so much on their own but it depends how old the baby is.
