I considered it and did it from 1971 to 1981. An absolutely brilliant 10 years. Went all over the world, places I could never afford to go to on holiday. Had some great mates and felt part of something worthwhile. Yes - I was a bit sad when I heard about the way some sailors behaved when picked up by the Iranians. It might suggest that the Navy is now letting wimps in. I hope it is not a general trend.

Just over 30 years ago I did try to join. Sadly, I was too much of a c*nt. After I sat the exam I went out and got pissed because I thought I'd done exceptionally well. When I returned to the Careers Information Office to get the results of the exam, the Advisory Officers saw the state I was in and told me to get out and never come back. <blub>
Guess what, I went next door and joined the Army instead. lol. They didn't seem to mind that I'd had a drink.

I seen it and did it from 1971 to 1981. a completely staggering 10 years. Went around the globe, places i ought to on no account discover the funds for to flow to on trip. Had some super friends and felt part of something priceless. confident - i became slightly unhappy as quickly as I heard appropriate to the way some sailors behaved while picked up with the aid of the Iranians. it ought to indicate that the army is now letting wimps in. i'm hoping this is not a primary vogue.

aww, dont do this! my 12 yr old lad has been in sea cadets for nearly 2 yrs and has just been enrolled as proper cadet. he's just got a load of badges including the 'commodores pennant' which only a handful of cadets in the whole country posess. i was really proud of him on his very first parade to celebrate 200 years since nelsons victory at trafalgar in 2005. its not just a career or a hobby, its good for discipline and gived the youth of today something to work towards, and above all, keeps them off the streets. he wants to go into navigation and i thought that was a really good insight for him to have at his age. now you're ruining it for me. i was a proud mother :(

I never considered it because I don't really know how to swim and I heard they require a minimum level of swimming proficiency. I've got a couple of friends who are in the Navy though.
