The most important way in which grad application differs from college application is the way in which programs are selected.

You must speak to your current professors in order to find out which grad programs will be appropriate for your particular interests, and you must also do research on your own to find the grad faculty with whom you wish to work. Theory and method are paramount at the graduate level, so you must find out where the professors who do superb research in your particular subfield of interest are, and you must also find out how they do their research (what methods they use, what their labs are like, etc.). You can do this by reading scholarly journals, and by contacting the directors of graduate studies of the programs in question. The DGS in each program can put you in touch with current grad students who will tell you if Professor M and Professor N are good mentors, and what it is like to work in their labs.

Grad applications depend heavily on GREs and letters of rec, as well as on one's research experience and personal statement. No one cares about extracurriculars or "well-roundedness," like they did when you applied to college. Grad admission is about focus on your subfield of specialization, and having the correct level of preparation in order to pursue this scholarly interest to the exclusion of other things.

    Best wishes to you!

not too much. you still have to fill out an application, and very likely write an essay. you will also likely have to submit a sample of your writing/work, and perhaps make a statement about what you intend to study/specialize in. also, when applying for a grad school, you want to look around to find out what the diff schools specialize in and what dept's specialize in, and maybe even get to know the teachers beforehand--if you can--because these are the folks who will be your advisors throughout the grad school process.

Your recommendations, especially from research advisers, matter a lot more. As do work and publication experience. Plus, it's almost not worth bothering if you don't have a 3.0 GPA, since you need to maintain one to remain in grad school.

in case you do not understand the explanation why you carry on with to grad college you in all probability should not be going. once you carry on with to a graduate application you are able to desire to understand which specialization you go with to decide for or a minimum of have a rather good theory. Which additionally means which you will desire to shop on with to places that have incredibly good emphasis on your field or a undeniable individual with a learn application which is going your learn pastime o.k.. provided that there are diverse super grad scholars in biology who love what they are doing and don't strategies working 60 hours a week on their initiatives, you will compete with those ultimately on the job industry. you are able to desire to have an quite good theory why you go with to get a PhD, in case you do not you will in all probability be greater proper off to make the effort out until eventually you recognize what and why you go with to proceed formal reading. a brilliant form of individuals get some lab tech jobs until eventually they determine what to do next. you are able to constantly flow back later. scholars who understand what they choose do usually plenty greater proper than the clueless.
