bleeding after baby?

I had my baby a month ago now and I am still bleeding. I know it can be up to 6 weeks, but my midwife told me that by four weeks it should definately be like spotting (brown) and then turn to just yellow discharge around 6 weeks. My bleeding had slowed down very much but now it is back again and it is still bright red and seems to be getting heavier. Is there something I can be doing to make this happen? How long did your postpartum bleeding take? Did you bleed the whole 6 weeks? I really want to be done with this by my 6 week appoinment. Thanks!

Update:

If this is my period will it be as heavy as a prepregnancy period? It is not as as heavy as that...yet anyway. Is this still normal?

It may be possible that you are over doing it! If your trying to get back into your old routine to soon, slow it down a little! Enjoy this time to recoop! It is possible that your activity could be causing the bleeding, don't lift, even little household chores can be to much!! Your body has been through alot, give yourself more down time! Let your body heal itself.

Oh and by the way Congratulations to you!! Mother of 3 and Grandma to one!

I think your bleeding slowed down and than you got your period, which is normal. I wouldnt worry to much about it, its just annoying because you want to be done with the whole bleeding thing, depending on how long your period usually goes for, im sure it will be done within 7 days. I only bled for 2 weeks, i bled heavy for 2 days and the rest was just yukky mucus. It will be done soon, just hold in there. Enjoy your beautiful baby !

You may be having a period.

Some women are lucky enough to not ovulate/have their period until well after the baby, but others are not.

I suggest you call your midwife, and ask her how possible this is.

    Good luck!
