Last words Bill Murray said to Scarlett Johansson?

In the movie LOST IN TRANSLATION written and directed by Sofia Coppola, does anyone know those words Bill Murray whispered into Scarlett Johansson's ear at the very end of the movie before he goes back to the taxi and leaves Japan?

I've often wondered if they were sweet words, or just saying goodbye, or something more?

At the end of the movie Bob whispers something quietly into Charlotte's ear. What was said has not been revealed and while many people have speculated there is no official answer - although there is a a widely recognized interpretation of what is heard, the director has stated that the line was unscripted and unknown to her and Bill Murray has declined to repeat the line when asked. There appears to be growing agreement, however, among careful listeners that the line is indeed "I'll always remember the past few days with you. Don't part mad. Tell him the truth. Okay?"

That is a brilliant film! Its an affair of two minds, beautifully directed in my opinion. Do you mean what Bill Murray says to Scarlett at the end? If so I would like to know myself.

Conversation between Bill and Scarlett before he leaves Japan in the movie Lost in Translation:

BOB (Bill Murray): Why are you crying?

CHARLOTTE (Scarlett Johansson): (sincere) I'll miss you.

He kisses her, hugs her good-bye.

BOB: I know, I'm going to miss you, too.

    He holds her close.

Charlotte watches Bob as he reaches his car, he turns and looks at her.

She smiles at him, and is lost in the crowd.

    Bob gets into his car.

Charlotte walks with the crowd as they go on their way.

Sorry, but we will positevely never know for sure what he whispers to her.

In the film he sees her from the limo and tells the driver "Hey, hold on here. Lemme out. Thank You."

He navigates through the crowded street, comes up behind her and says

"Hey, you." She turns around eyes wide looking happy and surprised. He faces her then hugs her. Looking sad he starts to cradle her head and stroke her hair. We see her eyes begin to fill with tears while they sustain their embrace. Then with one hand on the back of her neck he puts his mouth to her ear and begins to whisper. Turn it up as loud as you want, all you'll catch at the end of whatever he says to her is him asking:

"Okay?" to which she quickly replies "Okay." He holds her for about 5 more seconds. Then they kiss for nearly four full seconds (a single kiss on the lips). She smiles, he kisses her cheek, they look at each other a few more seconds, and he says "Bye". She says "Bye". He says "Bye" once more as he starts to walk away from her. She is tearful but smiling as he walks backward, walking away from her but still gazing at her looking weary and lonely, sad in a way that is beyond tears. Then he manages to match her smile before he turns around still walking away. She turns around to leave and the small smile she had on quickly disappears into a younger confused, lost sadness. As she walks towars the camera away from him, she looks back slightly desparately, not seeing him look back she turns back and continues to walk away. A slight smile returns to her face. He never does look back at her as they walk away from each other. (that's the short version)

You can turn on the subtitles if you have the dvd what he whispers translates to [Whispering, Indistinct.]

before he asks "Okay?" to which she replies the same.

But according to Sophia Coppola's original script it was going to go like this:

    BOB

    Why are you crying?

    CHARLOTTE

    (sincere)

    I'll miss you.

He kisses her, hugs her good-bye

    BOB

I know, I'm going to miss you, too.

    He holds her close.

    CUT TO:

Charlotte watches Bob as he reaches his car, he turns and

    looks at her.

She smiles at him, and is lost in the crowd.

    Bob gets into his car.

    CUT TO:

Charlotte walks with the crowd as they go on their way.

    INT. CAR - DAY

Back in the Presidential, alone, Bob leans against the little

    doily. They drive off.

He looks out the window, Bob's happy he's going home, he's

    happy he came to Tokyo.

Bob's P.O.V.- Tokyo goes past his window.

    FADE TO BLACK:

    THE END

Sweet words ? We hope. Goodbye? Maybe. Something more? To know would be to ruin the thing that is so wonderful about it.
