Should we modify laws that allow anyone born in a country to automatically become a citizen?

That will never happen because anyone that is born here is an American regards of the parents status. The child has nothing to do with the parents. They should not get punished for having illegal parents.

I am American. I dated a guy from another country, moved over there and had 2 daughters. My children are not americans and they are now here with me.

In order for me to make them Americans, I have to apply for them here in the U.S.

We can't pass laws that require something of a different country, such as that country's citizenship rules. We can only pass and enforce laws that effect our citizens or people visiting our country, whether they are here legally or not. I'm pretty sure that anchor babies are not citizens of the US if their parents are not citizens. I know that is not the common understanding at this time but I think it is the intent of the Constitution and when it is finally tested they will not be citizens.

If for example an American soldier and his wife are stationed in a foreign country and they have a baby (not born on base, which IS American soil) there the baby is an American. It is NOT a (whatever country) citizen. Babies who are born while their parents are traveling are citizens of the parent's country.

There is no reason to reward illegal invaders of our country with citizenship for their children. That is not the law and that is not the custom. It is merely a contention by illegals that their little anchors are Americans thus spreading Americanism to the whole family.

In the UK we have a variation of citizenship via birth (jus soli). What happens is if the child is born in the UK and has the UK as the primary residence until their 10th birthday they automatically get British citizenship regardless of their parents immigration status.. I think that would be preferable.

The 14th Amendment wasn't created for illegal aliens, it was created when the slaves were brought over. Politicians have warped the meaning behind it to benefit their needs. We already have a law - If you're not a citizen you do not belong here.

I agree with your examples! It's not fair that we have to continue putting up with this nonsense that has been going on far too long! What's more important - Coming first in our own country, or letting "those who have it bad" break our laws and get a free meal ticket?

I totally feel that there should be laws to prevent such easy access in the first place: them just bustin' over here to begin with, and in the second place: so what if you have a kid here: take him back where you were born. Why should them adding to their brood (when they've probably smuggled their other children not born here in with 'em) give them a "get in free" pass? We probably can't go do that in other countries.

They should make a law that says: Your child born in the U.S. will NOT be a U.S. Citizen until you (the parents) get your own damn papers right and become OFFICIAL citizens yourselves, dammit!!!

We should only deny citizenship to children born to illegals.

The legal immigrants however will still be able to have their children granted citizenship if born in the States.

In my opinion, anyone born here is a citizen...and also, anyone that marries a legal citizen of this country, I consider an American citizen.....it's only fair....

My family came here during the Mexican American War...we were granted citizenship and given land to help fight against Mexico...we're still here....

Born in the USA = American citizen.

This system represents American ideals because it does not take any element of race or ethnicity into account. If you are born in our nation, you are a member of our nation. Simple and equal.

NO amendments needed ... simply apply the law the way the writers intended it.
