Distilled Water VS. Tap Water?

well i was reading that distilled is a lot better for you because tap water has all those chemicals and distilled water has all of the impurities taken out of it..

honestly, i think that spending a about a dollar per bottle is a bit much, considering we need about 8 glasses per day.. so would boiling tap water be any better?

should i really go for the distilled or could i just boil tap water?

how much of a difference can there be? I mean, i understand the whole impurities thing..but health-wise.. is distilled really THAT much better, because if it IS, then i might as well go for bottled water, but if it isnt, i'm sticking with good old boiled tap water.

much appreciated! TY.

Public water supplies are regulated by the EPA. Those regulations are much stricter than the FDA's regulations for bottled water. If you want safe water, I recommend your public water supply from your tap. The public water supply is required to inform you about their water quality each year by July 1st. Call them to ask about the quality if you have questions. Taste is up to you. If you like bottled water for the taste, then drink it. Otherwise, drink tap water which costs about $2 to $4 per 1000 gallons.

The difference between tap water and bottled is that you pay for what you get. Sure tap is usually safe when treated by the city purification systems, but there remains the, ugh, taste. Bottled takes all the bad tastes out but also leaves minute pieces of residue and a flat flavor. The best way is to use a distilled method then fit an aerator to the faucet to get back flavor.

Distilling water means you boil the water, collect the steam and then the collected steam becomes water again and goes through a filter. That's about as pure as it gets, there are some impurities you still cannot filter out of water just by running the raw water through it. The only draw back is that the water really tastes flat, there is no taste at all.

Distilled water? I use that in my iron because it will not leave a residue. For drinking and cooking a few minerals like calcium for teeth and bones won't hurt that much. Boiling tap water is what you do if it has bacteria in it like Montezuma's Revenge or if you want dehydrated water to take with you somewhere so it won't weigh so much (1 Lb. per cup) but you would have to rehydrate it to use it. I personally prefer bottled water that I can get for 20 cents a gallon.

It actually depends upon where you live. In some cities, the water's really bad. You can get a filter inexpensively to put on the end of your faucet that takes most chemicals out. You can also buy store brand distilled water by the gallon for under a dollar.

Boiling tap water kills bacteria. It doesn't take out the impurities.

If you don't want distilled; try a Brita or a Pur water filter. They take most of the junk out

If you want to use your tap water, install a RO filter (reverse osmosis) and you will be ok. The RO filter we have cost $100 and we installed it ourselves. Pays for itself in a short time and the filters aren't too expensive.
