I know this goes without saying, but.........?

It's almost the fourth of July. Every year our local pound is full of animals that were terrified by the fireworks. Most are never claimed. Probably because the owners didn't care enough to make sure the animal was safe to begin with. Or because it was an "outside" dog and they didn't know it would be scared stupid.

Actually, this question (that's not really a question) is for the new "parents". Do you know if your pet will be frightened? Do you plan on leaving it in the house if you will be gone? Please, before you go to a picnic or fireworks display, make sure your pets are safe!

Thank you for posting this important reminder!! I do not understand why "pet owners" do not seem to get this?? Fireworks and animals don't mix. Makes for dangerous situations as dogs will go crazy trying to get away from the noises and can get hurt bad. Plus the danger of bad people aiming fireworks at yards with dogs outside==for fun and knicks!?

So, please make sure your pets are inside and safe during the July 4th fireworks time, mainly at nights. And be watchful of those that might be endangering animals with firecrackers, etc. This can be reported to police. Or alert the owners of what is happening. Keep our 4 legged babies safe.

  • Thanks for posting! I know what you mean...it never fails every year we find a terrified dog. We put up posters/and ads in the newspaper with no calls. Eventually we do have to take them to the pound because we are at the legal limit of dogs in our area...3. I feel horrible doing this but at least the dog got shelter during the fireworks and did not get hit by a car. People are so retarded. My parents keep wanting to go out of town...but I have 3 dogs and 3 birds outside. I must stay home with them to watch them in the house. My one dog gets so scared she has "accidents" when big fireworks go off. I feel awful, but owners need to be with their pets in such a hard time. Thanks for posting!

I had a chocolate lab that FREAKED during the week of the fourth every year. The vet kept insisting that we medicate her for calmness the evening of the fourth but I found that if I left her in my bedroom with the television volume on relatively high and all of the lights on and windows closed she was fine. The rest of the week when loud sounds bothered her I would comfort her a lot and sit with her for reassurance.

hey I have 6 dogs, all of them stay outside except for 3 and they stay in. Last year on the 4th of july we was shooting fire works and we had one of our inside dogs out side and it scared her to death so we put her back in.Our outside dogs wasn't scared, our pit actually tried to catch them. Everytime one went up he would jump in the air and try to catch it, it was so cutie.

Source(s): P.S. we didn't shoot them near the dogs so they was safe.
