  • Rebuilding a deck that's falling apart?

I'm adding a deck to an existing porch that is 7 feet off the ground on bad 4 x 4s that need to be replaced. One is set into a horseshoe brace and one is set into the concrete deck. What would be the best way to go about replacing the 4 x4s?

  • Why is my dryer doing this?

My three year old Maytag dryer is leaving black streaks on my clothes. They look like a pencil line. I've checked the drum and all the other parts (and wiped them down with a bleach solution) and can find no reason for this. I'm certain I'm not putting a pencil in with EVERY load, so any advice would be appreciated

  • My 11 month old (spayed) shih tzu has a growth?

It covers her entire top right nipple. It looks like a wart. The vet is going to remove and biopsy it tomorrow. Was just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and what the outcome was?

  • Which is your preference?

My mother and I have a 40 year feud about vacuuming. She insists it should be done BEFORE dusting. I say it should be done last. After everything else is done so you can get all the dust you knocked onto the floor.

    What is your preference?

  • An acquaintance called at 6 A.M.?

She said her dog had eaten 3 or 4 incense cones. I told her to give the dog hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting and then call the vet. She said if he threw up, he should be fine.

Why do people ask what you think if they don't want to hear, "Call the vet!!"???

  • I know this goes without saying, but.........?

It's almost the fourth of July. Every year our local pound is full of animals that were terrified by the fireworks. Most are never claimed. Probably because the owners didn't care enough to make sure the animal was safe to begin with. Or because it was an "outside" dog and they didn't know it would be scared stupid.

Actually, this question (that's not really a question) is for the new "parents". Do you know if your pet will be frightened? Do you plan on leaving it in the house if you will be gone? Please, before you go to a picnic or fireworks display, make sure your pets are safe!

  • PBS Documentary question?

Did anyone see the documentary on PBS a few nights back? They were asking the question "do animals know in advance when there is a natural disaster about to occur?" After hearing the pros and cons, I think they do. What are your thoughts?

  • Any letter carriers out there?

I would like to know why our letter carrier maced my 12 year old blind chihuahua. I have a totally fenced yard with the mail box on the OUTSIDE of the fence. She is rarely outside when he delivers, but was yesterday. I'm sure he was startled by the fact that she ran headlong into the fence while barking because he doesn't know she is blind. Still, there IS a fence there. Why would someone mace her when she stood no chance of getting at them?? It's a 6 pound dog, not a rattlesnake, for heaven's sake!

I have called the post office and we're now playing "he said, she said". Any ideas from any of you letter carriers of how to prevent a repeat or this happening to someone else's dog?
