Who longs for the good ol' days?
Let me start by saying,I'am a #24 fan and have been since "Wonderboy" broke in.But as I reflect on yesterdays race I'm wondering why in the world Jeff didnt use his bumper more.He certainly needed to use it to get by Truex jr. and probably would have passed Hamlin easy.Gordon beat the heck out of Jimmy's back bumper earlier this year and their TEAMATES.What I'm getting at is back in the day there was no question a faster car was going to do whatever it took to get around you,if a driver could get to your bumper he was going to use it.Now I'm not saying on lap 50 start moving guys, but with 25 to go look-out.Thats why I like Nascar if intimidation isn't a factor we would never have had an "Intimidator".Anyone else long for those days or has Nascar gotten to be to much about "big picture racing".For me its all about W's nothing else matters. What do you fans think?

A couple things to keep in mind are the COT doesn't get as loose in traffic or from contact the way the "old" cars do and NHIS is a very tough place to pass anyway. Jeff basically said he could get to him but then didn't have enough to get around. I think that was the case with Jeff's battle with Martin. At Martinsville, with Jimmie, he couldn't get him loose enough to move him out of the way and make the pass. The only way Jeff could have won that race would have been to wreck the very car he owns, which hopefully wouldn't happen. The COT can just flat out take more abuse without spinning and wrecking. The aerodynamics are part of it but also the energy absorbing foam in the sides (as far as side by side contact or when cars are passing and touch). Another factor is the speeds on the cars are always getting to be closer and closer to each other. That, along with bodies that are practically identical, means you don't have as big of a difference from the good cars to the slower ones. I do long for the good old days when every 1/8 of an inch wasn't scrutinized and they settled disputes with fists, in the pits instead of on the track, after the race. Everybody complaining how Juan drove last week apparently doesn't remember road course races 10 years ago or earlier. What he did was NOTHING compared to how Dale Sr drove on a weekly basis.

I do real bad. It was a treat to even hear the news about a NASCAR race back in the day. It was good clear up until 2000, 2001and has gone down a steep steep hill since then.
I hate the hell out of the chase. It is an insult to all the other drivers and what the heck the guy at the end of the year who does the best day in day out is going to win anyway way segregate the field. It makes no more since than to try and get some of these round ball FOX sports net work watcher to watch NASCAR.
I was a Sr. fan and although he was the intimidate I was not always in his favor of where he would bump. But I sure do miss this guy. He could be all in all the main reason it has gone down hill so fast. I think he would have had a fit with the crap NASCAR has been changing and the penalties they have been handing out.
My first traveling Grand National race was in 68. That is how long I have been a fan and still trying to be a fan but they are not cooperating

Ok, so Jeff didn't tear Denny's bumper off; did he really need to. Jeff will only move a Driver if he knows he can do it without wrecking him. He has rarely been around Denny and had no idea how putting the bumper to him would turn out.
Jeff is still a "rubbin is racin" type of Driver. He will rub but not wreck (even though sometimes it does end up in wreck). Yeah, he was big picture racing; because one of the problems with using the bumper is that you may wreck the guy you are putting the bumper to and yourself. Jeff played it smart and I applaud him for that.

I think you are right....
It is a shame that Nascar has over regulated everything in the sport. I remember further back when Piersons and Allisons and Waltrip use to bump and bang, and back then not every car was equal.
Take a look at the king...The reason why we will never see anyone dominate the sport like that again is because Nascar has taken the creativity out of the hands of the Crew Chief and stated what he will use and how much.
I am afraid in the future there will be no more competitive edge at all. Hell GM and Ford should just make the cars off the line and then Nascar won't have to decide or think. They can just watch

You mean the days when the Constitution of the United States meant something; teachers actually taught something relevant; people worked to earn what they wanted and needed; girls got married BEFORE getting pregnant; respect was not seen as a sign of weakness; labor unions were for the worker rather than for the "leadership"; we had a MUCH smaller government? Except for the 90% tax rate, which we'll be seeing again real soon, I can't see anything majorly wrong.

Denny Hamlin's crew chief even said that he didn't know how Denny won considering Gordon could have easily passed him had he wanted to. In my opinion Jeff didn't do it because of the heat Hendrick is already under and he knew for a fact that if he did do something like spin out or rough up Hamlin for the win that he and the entire team would be chastised and labeled as cheaters. Or hell maybe Jeff just wanted to let the kid get his first win for 2007. Bottom line is we all know Denny Hamlin didn't beat Jeff Gordon yesterday, but instead Jeff Gordon let Denny Hamlin win. Even the "evil" Jeff Gordon lets a dog have his day every now and again.

The only problem with that is the motto for nascar drivers is "what goes around comes around" You bump and run someone your gonna get it right back, and whenever that happens always an innocent driver gets involved in a wreck thats caused by paybacks. I think if a driver cant get around another driver by speed alone, then the driver ahead has the better car and should win the race. If you can't bump and run someone clean then I don't think it should be done at all.

I miss those day even thought I have only been watching Nascar for 11 years and been a fan of Jeff Gordon since I was 6!!!!! But I bet Nascar has told them not to wreck each other on purpose because of what happened to Dale Sr. only thing and reaon unless he didnt want to look bad or figured he was fine since he was making the Chase anyway!!!!

You mean back in the day when Nascar had less control over the outcome of races??? Yes. You mean back in the day when we could actually watch more race than commercial?? Yes again. Back in the day before Brian France said "to hell with what the fans want... let's just see how much money I can make"??? Absolutely. I agree with Tony Stewart... Nascar is getting more and more like professional wrestling.

With the old cars, a bump was really more of a lift and the lift really made the front car loose. With the COT a bump is just a bump, not a guaranteed pass. To put someone out of the way in a COT you have to wreck them without looking guilty and somehow clear the wreck. I think Jeff was bumping pretty hard, he was just conservative not wanting a penalty or to wreck himself. The 100 points he lost made him more conservative then he might have been if he still had the 100 points.
