Will the Cubs catch the Brewers?

There 6.5 back. They just took 2 outta 3. And there leading the season series between the 2. Do you think they can catch them and then keep the lead. Catching them is one thing but maintaining first...

    Cubs will catch the brewers

and then they'll play very well during the middle part of season ..july and august

and then entering september will hold a 7 game lead over the brewers

by putting so much energy into putting up a good record and maintaining the lead, the fragile cubs like derrek lee, aramis ramirez, floyed, jacque jones, dempster etc will start to break down and won't be able to handle the injuries

and then they will be swept by the cincinati reds at the last series of the year and lose their lead in the division to the brewers and won't be able to make the wild card either and the lousy cubs like always will end the season by going home

I think it will be very tough for the Cubs to catch the Brewers. The Brewers are a very solid team, and while the Cubs are playing good, I don't think the pitching is good enough to make that large of a comeback. I would give them a much better chance if they could make some trades, but the impending sale of the team keeps management from being able to add any sort of debt to the payroll on to next year's team.

    Not gonna happen. Here's why:

The Brewers have more quality pitching (esp compared to the Cubs bullpen).

The Brewers have more talent at the plate TOP TO BOTTOM. They are a run scoring machine. No theres no Soriano Lee or Ramirez, but after Fielder they have tons of quality.

Only one more 3 game series left v the Brew Crew so head to head may not matter by then (end of August).

    Finally... they are the Cubs.

Nope. Although they have the talent, they have the hallmarks of an inconsistent, .500 team. Win 5, lose 4, win 3, lose 6.....etc.

The pitching is remarkably inconsistent. Recently they had a stretch where they gave up 2 runs in 3 games, immediately followed by a stetch of giving up 36 in 5 games. The bullpen isn't too reliable, the only one I have confidence in is Marmol. We all know that in this era of bullpen overuse, the bullpen is the main key to a winning team.

The hitters are hot and cold too, although lately they've been showing signs of being consistently around 5 runs.

Yeah they got the talent to do it. Prolly need another starter and some help in the pen but I think they can do it.

and I'm a die hard Cards fan...

No way we have just started July beware of the cards and the strohs they will make a run after all-star break

  • They have the ABILITY for sure, but Cody, they're the Cubs...

They can, if they get hot for a sustained period, like 25-30 games....
