Hairstyle with veil?
Ok, here is my issue. I asked my mother in law to do my hair for my upcoming wedding. Now, I want an low-updo but she thinks I should pile a bunch of curls on the top of my head. I do not want this and have voiced it to her several times. Now I have convinced her that it is my day and my hair should be the way I want it. BUT now we have a problem with my veil. I want it on top of my head - it's just that I have always imagined my veil kind of cascading over my shoulders - and she says that since my hair will be up (really, it's like the nape of my neck!) that I HAVE to wear the veil under my bun. I really don't like the way it looks on me. Yes, we have messed with my hair when I am wearing my dress and I really, really do not like the veil the way she wants it. She says that it is improper to have a veil on the top of the head with any kind of updo. I disagree. I think it would look fine. Who's right?

I think you just have to realize that if you wear your veil higher up on your head, you won't really be able to see the back of an updo...so she can do something really simple for you. If you have side bangs, that could look really cute. But emphasis now on the main point. This is your wedding, that's how you want your hair. Just calmly discuss it with her, and I'm sure she'll understand.
good luck and congrats!!!

I'm actually thinking of getting a low updo done for my wedding and I plan on wearing a veil on the top of my head. It's just how it's traditionally worn. You won't be wearing the veil the entire time either, most girls take it off by the reception time, and no one will care how it looks during the ceremony. They'll be too busy looking at you not your hair... no one will care that much other than your mother in law.

I've seen lots of brides wear the veil on the top of their head who had an updo and I've seen them wear the veil at the bottom of the "do". It doesn't matter who is right or wrong, what matters is how you think it looks. If you are happy with it then tell her you're going to do it the way you want to since it's your wedding.

She is kind of right. If you have a low bun, the veil is either pinned underneath it or directly above it. Not on the top of your head. If you want your veil on the the top of your head, that's where all your hair needs to be. But again, the veil goes either directly below or in front of the hair.

why not just pay for a hairstylist to do you hair for this day. go one day early have a consult and then go back and let them do the hair. your bridesmaids may even want to go along. don't let her get her feelings hurt ... just say the girls are looking forward to a last get together. one girl may want a mani / or a make up lesson or a hairdo. just let the pros to the work. tell her thank you thank you thank you, bu just wouldn't be right for her to have to labor on such a special day.
