Is mange contagious across species?

One of my dogs got mange. I treated them all successfully. However, I'm wondering if I need to treat my horses, cats, or other animals that the dog may have come into contact with.

Depends on what type of mange your dog has. Demodectic mange is not contagious, but sarcoptic mange(scabies) is. Humans can also get scabies from animals. The last common form of mange is otodectes, which is ear mites, and this one is also contagious, but not to people.

mange isn't highly contagious as you might think. certain types of mange isn't contagious at all. The other animals should be fine. It is rare for mange to cross species even when a dog sleeps with humans. However, if you are worried or see possible signs on the other animals, give your vet a call and see what they have to say to ease your mind.

Yes. You need to treat them only if they catch it.

You should talk to your vet about this.
