Why ISNT it embarrassing for coloured people to believe in God?
Tribal Africans did not know of a God. Did they have one or were they free of all godlike entities? Only white people taught about Jesus. They enslaved them too. When Africans were free, why didnt they return to Africa or at least the beliefs that went before.
I find it astonishing that the newer generations cling to Christianity, after all their forebears went through. Why dont they go back to their homeland and re-establish themselves....with their newfound knowledge and technology. They arent poor now....so why dont they go home and help their own people that really need it?
It seems like they shut their eyes to the requests on TV for monetary help for starving children. I have never heard of an African American donating anything or adopting African children...do they not care or are they repulsed by their own race now? With so many Africans doing so well overseas....how come they arent creating large adoptive families to protect their own links?

um, despite the fact that many countries around the world have been evangelized by Christians, the religion you grow up with is still the religion you will call your own - most of the time. theres a number of American black Muslim converts, and this probably has to do with an alternative to Christianity.
some African religions survived the slave trade, like the voodoo influence in Haiti. Haiti was the second colony in the hemisphere to declare independence from its parent country, thus the stronger ties to African culture and religion.
but your idea of African-Americans adopting African babies comes from the idea that black Americans are more African than American. if youre white, and have roots in England or Germany, why dont you go back to those places and start a charity, just to give back some of what wealth youve made here? get me?
EDIT: by the way, Ethiopia was Christian BEFORE ROME.

The only thing that is embarrassing is this racist question and your antiquated use of the word "coloured".
So you have "never heard of an African American donating" anything means that they haven't?? How many charities list their donations received by the race of the donor ? When I donate to charities, I don't announce my race or religion. Do you ?
Also, many black families would like to adopt, but they are told by white run adoption agency that they aren't qualified. One qualification is that you must OWN your home. But why is being a renter considered a disqualifier ? There are other arbitrary factors that disqualify blacks from adopting.
And many blacks adopt within their own families, grandmothers, aunt, uncles, cousins, etc.
Your little rant, is nothing more than a racist diatribe asking basically why don't all the blacks leave the country.
Thanks for the 2 points.

You think that only Africans are colored? I am a soft peach color myself.. You remarks are stupid at best but more likely raciest. The very first non Jew to hear and except Jesus as Lord and Savior was a black man. An official of the Ethiopian court. Jesus had so much love for the man that He miraculously sent Stephen to show him the Way. Sounds like you need to rethink you position before you make such a silly charge against the Church..
And who are you to say that black Christians don't help peoples from other lands. I say other land because Black America is just as American as any other segment of the country. They are my brothers and sisters under the law of our land. Ever bit as patriotic as any other. You must have your eyes shut much tighter than you say their's are. Stop worrying about what other people are doing, you should go and do good without such concerns.... Jim

Hmm. To answer it though you would need to look at the origins of religion. For the purpose of answering this question we will only look at the 3 big religions in the world namely, Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
All 3 originated in the middle east and slowly moved to the other countries as people set out to build lives in other places taking with them their beliefs.
Christianty came into Africa when the British were adventuring the world looking for opportunity, going treasure hunting and basically brought Christianity to the Southern parts of Africa. The northern part already practised Islam for many years (This is going back to the time of Saladin, King Richard and Alexander the Great). The eastern part of Africa had accpeted Islam many years before Christianity came to the African continent whilst the western part of Africa was mostly influenced by the western explorers and therefore accepted Christianity.
When the western explorers discovered Africa they took African slaves back to their homes and taught them Christianity while the Christians who built new homes in the African continent preached about Jesus and one God. Many African people who did believe in God but had no idea how to pray quickly took to the Chritian religion but an equal number took to Islam as a religion. Interestingly enough - most North African countries practice Islam.
South Africa was influenced by explorers like Jan Van Riebeeck and Bartholomew Diaz who were most likely Christian and as a result of their exploration - brought western ideas to the southern country. Tradtional beliefs of African people still exists but on a much smaller scale i.e. The belief in spirits etc which was not much different from the beliefs of the Greeks with Greek Gods (Zeus etc).
Bottom line is Christianity, Islam, or Judaism does not belong to any specific race. None of the religions belong to white, black, coloured, asian etc. All three belong to God and He has commanded the people (all colours) to practice upon their religion so that they know how to pray to Him and live in a healthy society with the rest of mankind. The coloureds have as much right over religion as everyone else does.
Please note that I am not a historian. Rather go and do in depth studies for yourselves.
Peace!

The number of misconceptions and misunderstanding in this question make it very difficult to answer. Many of the African people still believe in their original gods. Those who were brought to the US as slaves were sold into slavery by their neighbors in Africa. They were not sold into slavery by missionaries. If you check out some history you'd discover the Africans who sold their neighbors into slavery often killed any missionaries they found.
As for sending money, how can you just assume no one sends money? Because they still ask for it? The conditions that have lead to need in Africa are as varied as the people and cultures that exist there. Sometimes the money is hijacked by the government. Sometimes the people actually reject help. Sometimes the wars that exist between different groups create the shortages. When you gain some experience in life you'll understand that things are much more complicated.

Belief in the one true God is never embarrassing.
+ Slavery +
The Bible does not condemn slavery. Colossians 3:22 even states, "Slaves, obey your human masters in everything."
This was much debated before and during the US Civil War.
The Catholic Church was one of the first groups to condemn slavery.
The condemnation of slavery is one of those nonbiblical doctrines that Catholics have developed through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit over the centuries.
+ In 1462, Pius II declared slavery to be "a great crime" (magnum scelus)
+ In 1537, Paul III forbade the enslavement of the Indians
+ Urban VIII forbade it in 1639
+ Benedict XIV forbade it in 1741
+ Pius VII demanded of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the suppression of the slave trade
+ Gregory XVI condemned it in 1839
+ In the Bull of Canonization of the Jesuit Peter Claver, one of the most illustrious adversaries of slavery, Pius IX branded the "supreme villainy" (summum nefas) of the slave traders.
+ Leo XIII, in 1888, addressed a letter to the Brazilian bishops, exhorting them to banish from their country the remnants of slavery -- a letter to which the bishops responded with their most energetic efforts, and some generous slave-owners by freeing their slaves in a body, as in the first ages of the Church.

+ African Catholics +
The 270 million Catholics of African descent represent about 25% of the one billion Roman Catholics throughout the world in more than 59 countries.
Most Black Catholics are in Africa. However there are about 3 million in the United States.

Missionaries have been there for centuries and they dont enslave them. You are stereotyping white people.
Why would anyone leave the land of opportunity to go to 3rd world countries where only rich people have hot water tanks and running water? Would you? Only a missionary would do such things.

Because unlike the people who enslaved them, the African peoples opened their eyes to what Christianity is truly all about.

Who created Pixies? who created Elf and mermaids? who created stable Angels and Demons? who advised you that God does not have faith in those sort of Entities? in basic terms a narrow minded individual in a narrow minded faith might say that. My God created each thing,Evolution? sure we are all dealing with this evolve every day from the time you have been born to the time you die you're changing and evolving so Evolution and faith are in unity we purely can not see the massive image. what's a Pixie yet a small Angel? in case you settle for the belief of Re-incarnation then you see that each existence you alter one you're male, yet another you're female, one you're rich, yet another you're damaging, are there Ghosts and spirits? angels and demons? female and male one among my previous existence i replaced right into a Mermaid pass discern

Why don't the white americans go back to europe if you expect the black americans to go back to africa?
