Helen Keller is a distant relative on my mother's side so this question is easy for me without looking it up: Anne Sullivan is Ms. Keller's educator, and she was born in Mass. to Irish immigrants and the gentlewoman grew up in an orphanage. :-)

Anne Mansfield Sullivan Macy was born to Irish parents in Massachusetts and, yes, she spent part of her childhood in an orphanage.
