What R the chances of Northern Ireland belonging to Ireland someday?

I'd say the chances are better than you'd think, given time (like maybe another 100 yrs), but by then there could be a federal Europe so a 6 out of the 9 counties in Ulster being governed by a different administrations will make little odds in the bigger scheme of things. there are already cross border funding and groups working together.

This generation will be the first to have known peace since my grandparents. In some unionist parts of Ulster they have already painted over the 'hate mural' and repainted them with more positive images such as George Best.

The problems in the North were based on economic reasons, I think the work of Martin Luther King in the US inspired the Catholic minority in the North to stand up and be counted, but their basic aims were econimic equality, right to jobs, housing etc, which were denied (it was a bit like apartheid but nowhere near as extreme), the IRA took on the plight and brought in the whole united Ireland context.

In the past due to high taxes and costs all of Northern Ireland would have wanted to remain under British rule ( if the truth be told) but the tide is turned, and suddenly we're the wealthier nation, (who'd have thought it). So you never know, 100 years ago all of Ireland was under British Rule, and all anyone wanted then was the right to govern themselves, so we got a lot more than my forefathers ever dreamed off, if the British were not so heavy handed in their approach to the original 'freedom fighters' they would never have acheived the groundswell of support that eventually saw 26 out of the 32 counties of Ireland forming a republic!

Probably very slim. You have people on both sides wanting very different things Catholics & pro Irish unity want a united Ireland again, & most prodestants & pro English want to be part of great Britian. So what do you do? You could vote on it but that would only cause another blody civil war so what they have is what will probably stay a N. Ireland state. Good luck to them they deserve the peace.

Personaly I would like to see a united Ireland but it's not worth the blood sheed any more.

Hell, the US is just as likely to purchase Afghanistan; both are war zones and nobody wants either Northern Ireland or Afghanistan.

Ireland doesn't want it any more than Britain does.
