If you are just beginning your college career, it is too early to be worrying about how challenging the CPA exam will be. What you want to know now is how well prior graduates of your college have performed on CPA exam - this will give you an indication of how well the college prepares you for the CPA exam. If you feel good about your college (Masters students at FSU have a fisrt time pass rate greater than 80% - MUCH higher than the national average...I felt good about my college!), then just focus on the classes. Don't worry about the CPA exam until you get there - your college classes should give you a good foundation of material.

When you get to CPA exam, select a review course/material, and study from that. Even with a masters degree, there was still stuff that I had not studied until studying for the exam!

Bottom line, don't worry about exam too early! Just make sure you are taking the appropriate classes so you can sit for it. Then devote 4 - 6 months of time to study for it after you graduate. The material on the exam is not that hard - the exam does not go too much in depth on anything. There's just a LOT of material to cover, which you'll learn in your classes. You should be fne.

Me too! Not only do you need a BA in accounting, you need several other classes in Accounting before you can take the test. That being said, you might as well get your Masters degree because the amount you have to take is like 1-2 classes shy of completing the Masters program. Oh, and when you are taking the BA program, make sure you are at a college that prepares you for the GMAT ( for the Masters program) and for the CPA exam. Not all colleges do it. Good luck!

Check with your states CPA society they should be able to tell you the criteria that you will need to apply to sit for the exam. Most states now require you to have more than just a BA to sit for the test. Some states require you to have the Masters. Since each one is different, you might find it beneficial to complete your exam in a state that also will allow movement. Depending on the state, you might have to take additional exams to keep your certification valid in another state. Florida's exam still requires you to take the Illinois bridge exam before you can practice in the State of Illinois.

    Hope this helps.
