Safe hotel?
I'm going to San Antonio the first week of August. I'm a single mom taking my four year old son. I was wondering if someone could tell me of a clean, decent, safe hotel to stay at. We are planning to go to Sea World for 2 days and then maybe go to the Riverwalk or something. I'm not real picky about hotels. I'm just unsure of the neighborhoods, and I want it to be CLEAN!! I've checked trip advisor.com but haven't been told much about the area surrounding the hotel. Thanks!!

A couple of ideas:
Either of the two Marriott hotels on the Riverwalk are good--we've stayed at both--one is a bit newer than the other.
Also, the Menger Hotel is good.
One super-fun place for kids is the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. It has a wonderful resort-style pool and a lazy river. It isn't on the Riverwalk, but your son would love it! They're very accommodating there.

-The Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. I've stayed there a couple of times. It's super clean, and a very safe hotel.
-The Marriott Rivercenter or Riverwalk. Those are some really nice hotels. The Marriott Rivercenter is attached to The Rivercenter Mall.
-I'd be careful around the the Sea World area there is some good and bad parts. At the downtown hotels there is people all around if you plan on "turning in for the day" late at night. A lot of the hotels around Sea World are by them selves, not too many people. The only reason I say this is becuase you're a single mom, you hear it over and over again on TV about things happening to people who are alone.

If budget is a factor, I would suggest that you could stay at the Motel 6 on the access road to I-410 between Marbach Rd and Hwy-90 This is Less than $50.00 a night and is safew also. You are just a short distance to Sea World and only a few minutes to down town.
There is also a Studio 6 not very far from Sea World also. It is under $80.00 a night.

I looked on Orbitz, but travelocity and others are just as good. Stick to the Northwest side near the Seaworld if that's where you'll be, but if you plan to drive around a bit, anywhere on the northside or northcentral side is a good close drive. Between Loop 410 and Loop 1604 are good. Get a map so you have an idea where you are looking. Here are some ideas:
Red Roof Inn San Antonio West - SeaWorld from $62
per night
Palace Inn from $59 per night
Oak Hills Medical Center and Extended Hills from $65
per night
Motel 6 San Antonio - Bandera Road from $54 per night
Studio 6 San Antonio - Medical Center from $59 per night

Just about anyplace on the north side of San Antonio is fine. Any of the hotels off of 1604 or I 10 close to Sea World are going to be pretty new. You didn't say how much you wanted to spend. Anyplace downtown will be much more expensive. I have no idea who you have been talking to, but San Antonio is a pretty safe place to go.
Enjoy!

Geez, San Antonio isn't THAT scary. Any hotel near Sea World will be nice. Any Marriott garden suites are nice...they are a chain which keeps everything clean.
Everything near the tourist areas will be fine. It's just the south, and west sides of town that are sketchy. Just look for a hotel close to Sea World which is a familiar chain, and you'll be fine.

People have some good suggestion for you already so I'll just add this to help come you alittle.
San Antonio is faily safe. Most lower income areas are working class. This means they work hard and party hard, but for the most part they are helpful, they just look rough.

We love the Pear Tree on the NE side of Midland.

It is a decent price, clean, and the staff is great. We always stay there when we go and we go quite often.
All you have to do is get on the 410 and it takes you to Sea World.
