I just replied to another post with this, and I htought it might help you too. And yes strengthening your abdominal muscle does slightly effect your breathe control, but remember, low breaths, breath support, and relaxed vocal chords. Here you go...

    A few tips.....

Like the last user suggested, a deep breath exhaling with SHH wil work, but not for as long as you can. Work it like this....

Inhale 4 beats, exhale 8 beats.

Inhale 2 beats, exhale 16 beats.

and finally the challenge, inhale 1 beat and exhale 32 beats.

With proper diaphragmatic breathing you should accomplish all of these.

Another tips, when laying down, lie on your back, start with 1 or 2 text book weight books and lay them just below the separating of the rib cage (over the diaphragm). Then spend thirty minutes (or less pending), each night reathing like this, increasing the weight at your own pace About 3 weeks into this I was breathing comfortably with my 56 pound dog on me!).

    More ideas....

before warming up, try this stretch.

Place your arms in front of you elbows at a 90 degree angle touching one another in front of your face. Keeping your elbows level, pull your arms back and away from eachother as far as you can while keeping the form (your chest should stick out a little). While doing this, take several deep breaths in. Your breathing will be restricted, but you will notice after a while that it will be easier to breathe because our muscles have stretched.

    During Performance......

While singing, make sure you aren't wasting air at the beginning of your phrases. Use your diaphragm for breath support, that way you will create longer more dynamic phrases, keeping control longer, and your voice won't become wavy, or bounce pitches. Also, before singing don't eat anything milk based, or dairy based. Never sing in the car (whether you think it's warming up or not), and dont drink ice cold water before going on stage, while it my feel refreshing, lukewarm water will help lube your vocal chords and relax them. Make sure you are breathing low, and are using proper mechanics so you don't strain your voice.

    Good luck to you!

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/M2uAz

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

Actually doing crunches increases the strength in your abdominal muscles and your abdominal muscles actually help with breath control. If you want to try it out do this exercise...take a deep breath, begin hissing like a snake, feel your stomache area, it should feel firm. If you hiss louder the firmness will increase. As you do crunches your absominal muscles firm up and you can increase the control of your breath. This will help you sing with better tone and sing longer phrases. I actually have a mat in my classroom and use situps and crunches to help the students learn to have better control.

    Happy Singing!

It might help with breath support, but not a lot.

Here's a good way to tell if you're getting all of the breath possible when you breathe. Exhale as much as you can and bend over to touch your toes, while you're bent over, take as deep of a breath as you can through your mouth, then stand up. Feel the way it feels in your stomach and chest. Now see if you can get the same amount of air without bending over.

One more tip, moving your shoulders does not have anything to do with breathing. If you raise your shoulders when you breathe it won't do anything but make you look silly. Try to break the habit. Good luck!
